Hello all,

I need some insight before I completely snap my crayons. I've had to walk away a few time from this issue. I bought a manual steering column from a wreckers I don't buy from anymore because its all been garbage so far. Anyways I put in a new hazard switch, turn signal cam and painted it up. The bearing on the bottom slides forward every time I take up the slack when I install it leaving the top end flopping around like a pile of tin cans. I pull it out tap the bearing back up put it in place and it all happens again and again and again like &^%&^ ground hog day. Is there a retaining clip that was missing off this stellar wrecker product or am I doing something wrong? The I'm referring to is the bearing at the very bottom of the shaft near the splines that go into the coupler. If I ever get this to work I'll put the new wheel on.

Is this what you have at the bottom of your column? Minus the shift levers of course.

The spring depicted above helps to keep the lower bearing in place on non-tilt columns...

AHHHH, Much appreciated. Thanks Fellas! I thought I was loosing my mind. Herein lies the problem with converting to a standard by buying the parts and not actually haven taken the truck apart in the first place. It's building a puzzle with out the box cover. I knew there was a something missing but didn't know what. Thanks for ending ground hog day.

Nice timing on this thread. I was having the same problem and don't quite understand your remedy to the way it should be or is there possible piece missing ? The picture on mine kinda tells me a big washer might be missing? Not sure but if I pull back on the steering wheel it will move maybe a half. Inch. Name: IMG_20150201_201856.jpg

I did add the spring and a thick washer that made a big difference. I have a standard transmission column off a two wheel drive truck that has a spring and a clamp like the one on a bike seat post. Looking at the way the works I wouldn't hesitate to add a couple of thick washers to take up the slack.
