Re: What brand 15 inch tires are you running
Ya know it's all in your taste and style. I like to stay in the stock size range and use the same size on all fours, that way I can rotate and get the most milage out of a set for my money. It seems that these days I get alot more milage than I used to out of a set. Seems like I don't light em up as often. Not sure if it's because of the price or my advancing age.
But man there are so many choices. When you start getting into fat, racing, performance tires and wheels the sky's the limit.

Re: What brand 15 inch tires are you running
Everyone runs the BFG's. Nothing wrong with those, but I wanted something different & went back to a good reliable tire from back in the day. They ride great and handle great. Did I mention they look great also. And at a good price. "Uniroyal Tiger Paws". Been around for ever.

Re: What brand 15 inch tires are you running
I had BFG T/A's on my '79 Suburban, 255/70-15, for about four years, maybe 20,000 miles or so. Over a period of a few months, three failed drastically, and judging from the bubbles, the fourth one was fixing to go real soon. None had ever seen less than 30psi, and they were never used off-road or with extreme loads. They all had the same serial number on the side, so maybe it was just a bad batch. I decided not to buy any more T/A's after the third one took a dump.
I now have two T/A's on the rear, bought before the third tire failed, and two Yokohama Avid ST's on the front, same size as the old ones. I think the Yokes might be a little better tire, but they're only a year or so old, so the jury's still out. Diameter is supposed to be 29.1", on 15x8 rallys. Also, Firestone FireHawks Indy 500 275/60/15 on all 4 corners. Great rain traction.

Re: What brand 15 inch tires are you running
Does anybody have the occasional rubbing on the front. Mine will hit my inner fender well (I assume) on a dip at a moderate speed? for that reason I thought about the 255 front and 275 rear. Right from the pictures I like the looks of both

i had that problem, just recently changed mine. i went to 255/60 15 for the steer axle and 275/60 15 for the drive axle. only problem i have now is the rear needs dropped another inch and the 15 inch rims are hitting the lower control arm in a sharp turn. all this will be modified soon.

Re: What brand 15 inch tires are you running
Thanks 72BLUZ. They look good. I will have to check to see if I thought I would have clearance problems with the LCA. I ran 255 60-15 on all 4 corners for several years and didnt have any problems but I have chenged my suspension around now so I might.
Your truck looks great. Dave

Re: What brand 15 inch tires are you running
I am using Uniroyal Tiger Paws 235/75/15. for the most part, my tire brand is used take-offs for $25-35 each mounted/balanced.
...How I got Tiger Paws... Back betwen 1997-1998, I repalced tires when they weren't legal to pass inspection with used Firestone ATX for 25-35 each mounted and balanced. I had a set of 4 on the truck when Firestone issued their recall in 1999. So...I got a set of new Tiger Paws for free! Three are still on the truck today. Most likely I will replace these Tiger Paws with used tires when these tires wear out to the point that they can't pass inspection. |

Re: What brand 15 inch tires are you running
Right now I am running General Ameria-Star's 235/75/15 rear 235/70/15 front. They are used but they had some good tread left on them. Only problem is that they have little to no snow traction or lose gravel (Rear end of the truck tries to "walk" around the front when shifting gears.) I am looking at getting a set of Kuhmo Road Venture AT KL78 tires for the truck, where I live having a set of on/off road tires even on a 2wd is a good idea.

What tire size do you have?
How much is the truck lowered?
