1990 gmc 4.3 running cold

My truck has been running cold lately like the temp gauge doesn't move or barley moves no matter how long it runs. I have heat but it's not the best. I have checked the coolant and tried to bleed any air out of the cooling system. I also changed a thermostat a month at ago so I don't really think it's stuck open. Any ideas what's going on here. Could I have to separate issues? Partially clogged heater core and a bad temp gauge? How could I check the gauge to make sure it's working right? Thaks
