Re: Show me your 47-53 rear mounted gas tank.

Excellent workmanship! That is exactly the tank I just went out and measured for. Did you go with the 8,1/4" deep 16 gallon one?
Could you have left the original x-member in if you put the filler on the right side?
Thanks for the pics.

Re: Show me your 47-53 rear mounted gas tank.

sorry, dont want to give bad info. I thought of using the 49 tank first.
I just checked and I actually went with the 1953-54
chevy extra capacity gas tank. it's the one in my pictures.

Part number is 53-CG-ssx. from "Tanks"

Re: Show me your 47-53 rear mounted gas tank.

I got rid of the cross member to raise it up as high
as possible. Hangs too low for my taste otherwise.

Also added a 2" x 4" 1/4" thick wall cross member
behind the tank for some crash protection.

Thanks. Keeping the tank up as high as possible is a good idea. Looks better, as though it "belongs" there.
Crash protection, as much as possible, is really smart, esp. in this modern "distracted" driving world.
