Using mid 80's bed with '78 fuel tanks?

Hey guys, I am getting ready to order the fuel fills for my short bed. It is a mid-eighties box but it is going on a 1978 frame with the 1978 fuel tanks. I noticed that something is different about the fuel fill necks in the LMC catalog. It seems there was a style from 79-81 and a different style from 82-87. Anyone know what the difference is and which one I should get to work with the tank?

Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Re: Using mid 80's bed with '78 fuel tanks?

I have a 1986 bed on a 1978. The difference is the filler neck was 1/4" larger in diameter on the later units. I ultimately got all the correct 1986 parts, and put new 1986-correct fuel tanks on, so everything on mine is 1986-correct all the way to the frame rails.
