Re: frame rivets size

In between 3/8 & 7/16. There is size between them that is a perfect match, but isn't made anymore. I am drilling my holes for 7/16 rivets in the crew frame.

Re: frame rivets size

The frame rivets are 11/32 but are very difficult to find. The next size up is 7/16.

Re: frame rivets size

3/8" grade eight bolts were used as the assembly line repair for miss hit or missing rivets.

Is there a reason you want to re-install a rivet rather than a bolt?

Re: frame rivets size

No problem.

Just wanted to make sure you were aware that a bolt is an acceptable GM authorized repair, in case you could go that way.

Re: frame rivets size

11/32 is the original size, but you may not be able to find any. So the next best thing is to step up to 7/16. That's what I did.

Yep, I've replaced most of the rivets in my frame with grade 8 7/16.

Yes you will have to drill to the 7/16 hole id.

Re: frame rivets size

A good bit will need to be used if your replacing a lot of rivets. I've went through two high grade bits, but I've also replaced nearly every rivet with a 7/16 bolt.

Re: frame rivets size

Which rivets are you replacing? I used a few different lengths in a few different places. I also used a washer on the top and bottom along with a lock washer. That took a little longer bolt in some places. Here's how the order went, bolt, flat washer, frame/cross member, flat washer, lock washer, nut. I think for the most of the cross members I used 1 1/4" to 1 1/2".

Re: frame rivets size

There are different lengths depending on how many layers of steel the rivet has to pass through. I believe it's Big Flats rivets site that has the instructions, maybe other sites do also. I bought like 1-1/2 in rivets and cut them to the proper length using their formula.

Here's a link to Big flats, they have the instructions down at the bottom of the page on the left.
