Ignition systems.....Which way to go?

I want to get a complete Ignition for my truck. The 383 will be in the truck in about a month. I want to go on ahead and set up a good ignition in it now for the 383 thats comming.
I am stuck between a MSD, Mallory or http://www.davessmallbodyheis.com/

So as usuial I am turning to you guys to help me out. I want the electronic, but I don't want to go with one that has the coil in the cap. I been looking hard at Dave's HEI due to the fact that you can get parts at your local parts house. But If I were to go with MSD or Mallory. Which one is the best? If I go with one of these I will go with a billet distrubtor.
Also lets say I go with MSD what all do I need to purchase to get it going in my truck? Please give me a detailed parts list.
I know I will need the distrubator, and external coil, is there any thing else that I might need?
This engine will see 6000 RPMS at times, and is going to be putting out 450 to 470 HP.
Thanks,
Sam Mancuso

I use msd and am happy with it. Only thing is it will burn up a bad cap and rotor really fast.

Why not go with a MSD HEI? Then all you need is plugs and wires, and you can get caps and rotors at the parts house. Price is around $330.....but from what i hear they are kick-a$$ distributors

I’ll put in another vote for MSD, been using them for years and have been very happy.

If your going with the non-HEI unit you will also need a control box the MSD-6AL is a nice one. Provides lost of power and you get there soft touch rev-limiter.

I emailed dave for pic's but they are to big!
Anyone have photo shop?

This is a small body HEI, a conversion I invented, developed and build. I have to get an old aluminum points dist from you to convert, as I have no cores. There are options available as well, along with a dedicated MSD trigger only conversion.

Post these pics on your board if you wish.

Let me know if I can build one for you.

Regards,
Dave Ray

Daves distributors are great. I know several people that use them. he is also a wealth of knowledge. For a hot street set up his cant be beat. The MSD is a great way to go too. The MSD can be tuned to run as good as Daves...but you have to know what you are doing. Go with either Daves or MSD...you wont be disapointed.

I have used a ton of different MSD stuff over the yeaqrs with great results. DUI is also a great ignition set-up. A freind of mine has used a couple of his set-ups with great result also.

I wanted to keep the stock look also so I yanked the points out, painted the cap, and put in a pertronix points replacement. I think they are at www.pertronix.com. Anyway only had to add 1 shim (which came wiht the unit) while following the directions and all went well with a small amt of help form the gang on this board.
Runs like a champ!

that Daves distributor looks it has the same pickup as an MSD, a ford magnetic. cheap and available at any parts store. I run the MSD ignition and love it on my 550 hp camaro.
