Re: DJM, or any 3" spindles questions

hmmm....the brake lines seemed a bit short. I should probably just buy new ones and install them when I tear this thing back apart.

Yes, I have contemplated putting it down 2" all the way around, but haven't yet.

Please let us know what solves the problem. I'm very curious.

Re: DJM, or any 3" spindles questions

haven't had time to tear it apart again yet. Probably get into it next week one evening. My son had baseball camp this weekend so I'm going back home for that.

Re: DJM, or any 3" spindles questions

I'm having a similar problem with some McGaugy's spindles. Ever since I installed them my right front tire and wheel sits too far in the fender and the the driver side seems to be too far out and very noticably so. I'm not sure if the spindles are the problem or not but I've never seen this before.

Re: DJM, or any 3" spindles questions

sounds like you have a camber problem. Did you change ball joints? Did you take the control arms off?

Re: DJM, or any 3" spindles questions

I redid my whole suspension and steering. All bushings, ball joints tie rod ends etc. . . . . It don't look like a camber issue but what do I know. The tire and wheel looks to be straight up and down and was aligned after all was done.

Re: DJM, or any 3" spindles questions

did you remove the upper control arms? Dip you change the upper control arm cross bars? Are you sure all the camber spacers went back where they belong?

I would take it back where it was aligned. If one is sitting outside the fender you have too much positive camber and the other would have to much negative. If those wheels and tires are set correctly you have bigger fish to fry.

McGaughy's drop spindles move the wheels out a little, but I'm sure it's equally on both sides.

With the steering wheel centered, I'd measure the distance from the lower control arm shaft bolt to the tire sidewall, or to the backing plates. That distance should be the same on each side, assuming the wheels are truly centered, and have the same width and backspacing. If it is the same, the problem isn't the spindles.

Re: DJM, or any 3" spindles questions

got the passenger side on tonight after a lot of grinding on the slot where the caliper slides in.... then bending the brake line and removing the inner fender well. Had to modify the battery box and I'm gonna have to relocate the radiator overfill bottle. AAny ideas on that?

Re: DJM, or any 3" spindles questions

How much drop are you putting on the truck? Did you change out the spring, too? I put 3" drop spindles and then dropped the spring a 1/2" and I still have more than enough room, without taking the out of the truck.

You appear to have a 3" drop spindle and a 1" drop spring combination.

Re: DJM, or any 3" spindles questions

3" spindle, 3" spring, 265/35/22 tires on 22x9.5 wheels. I'm ordering some trailer fenders this weekend. Going to go ahead and cut out the inner fender area, weld in some sheet metal and then put the trailer fenders in. I drove it home after doing the drivers side and it only scrubbed a couple of time on pretty significant bumps. I rolled the fenders a good bit. I'll probably end up cutting some of the fender lip off, welding in some sheet metal, and then smoothing it out so it's not a sharp edge near the tires. I might as well start working on all of this since I'll be bagging it soon anyway.

Re: DJM, or any 3" spindles questions

it actually sit a bit lower since the other side is done. I measured 27.5 inches from the ground to apex of the wheel opening in the fender. about 1.5 inches between the top of the tire and the bottom of the inner fender.
