sound proofing start???
Id like to start sound proofing my cab. Got the window tracks and fuzzies ordered and keep hearing about dynamat and other junk like it. Is there an order you would follow when getting ready to add in a sound system? IE Do this first and then that? Trying to not have to redo anything.
Thanks

Get everything out of the cab and doors, then cover everything you can with dynamat, then install everything back. Your gonna have to peal and cut the dynamat back out in some places where stuff bolts up, but the results are well worth it.
This pic is when i was donig mine, you can see i went all the way up the firewall, covered the floor, inside the outer and inner skin of the doors and up the back of the cab.

place it where you want it, make sure you got it bent in where any bump or curves are at. heat it up from where you start and then take the roller. Dont heat up the whole piece just work it in section. This will make the dynamat stick better. Since I've been the new guy at work I get all the ***** jobs which include sitting in a trunk dynamating. Fun stuff.

WHen I pull the door panel off the door I see rust. Should I treat it before I seal it backup? Is there something to spray on it that will nuke it or do I have to sand and grind?

Are you talking about inside the cavity of the door?? If so, your going to see some surface rust. We had my doors sandblasted, primed, painted and undercoated inside the doors. I don't think your painting your truck, i'd just go over it some with sand paper, get some self etching primer, tape up the door, spray it down in there, spray some paint the color of your truck then undercoat. I'm not talking do a super job, just a good coating, noone will ever see it and maybe it will give you a few more years before the rust starts bubling up on the outside

Before applying the dynomat, wash the surfaces with soapy water and let it dry real good. The Dynomat sticks really good to CLEAN surfaces. It won't stick to wax, dirt or grease though. Take your time and the results are well worth the effort.
