Big block headers for lowered pickup
Hey everyone I'm new here, I'm from wheatland ca, I'm in the process of putting a big block and th400 in my 69 c10 and I'm wondering what headers work best for this, my truck is lowered so I don't really want truck long tubes, thanks

Re: Big block headers for lowered pickup
hooker super comp long tubes are working fine for me. they sit even with the lower frame rail.

Re: Big block headers for lowered pickup
yes truck headers. I can get a part number for them when I get home into the trucks file. I am using 72 and up mounts so I am not sure if that makes a difference for the 67-71 style. Tubes fit great no modifying tubes power brake and power steering truck. I do run an aluminum head raised port design that may bring the ports up a little bit

Re: Big block headers for lowered pickup
I just bought yesterday the Hedman 69170's. My truck is a '70 with a big block, big block stands and mounts. I always have had a hard time finding a header where the z-bar will clear #7 primary. We'll see if this time is a charm.............

Re: Big block headers for lowered pickup
it may help to specify which stands and mounts you are using.
I will get a photo of mine when I get home tonight. The Super comps work nice and they have a thick mounting flange to reduce warping. I also am using copper gaskets never had sealing issues. |

Re: Big block headers for lowered pickup
I got the proper big block mounts with the dip in them for the exhaust to clear, I bought some summit chevelle headers because I had read they fit these trucks but the passenger side hits the lower control arm and the frame rail, maybe because they are cheap summit headers

Re: Big block headers for lowered pickup
okay so they don't sit quite as high as I thought. but the control arms are lower still. I did have to drop the outlets down to clear the cross member for the transmission. Are you using the early or late mounts? That's also a big pan eight quarts.

Re: Big block headers for lowered pickup
those worked good for me on my 71 just spend the extra money and buy the 72 frame mounts. My headers don't bottom out but I only have a 3.0 front drop. All CPP spring and 4.0 in the rear also all spring no blocks.
The Hookers have 3/8 flanges so they don't warp and I use copper gaskets as stated. I am trying out a new set of collector gaskets made from graphite and steel. if they don't work well I may switch to a ball and socket style. providing I don't sell it first. |

Re: Big block headers for lowered pickup
Sanderson block huggers. They stay between the flanges of the C-channel frame from wheelwell to the collector flange.

Re: Big block headers for lowered pickup
Sanderson BB8's worked great for me. They are about a 3/4 length header, so you can tuck the exhaust up in the frame.

Re: Big block headers for lowered pickup
I put a BB in my '71 project and used Stan's Headers. I have to pull the front tires on 2x10's to get a jack under the bumper and front cross member. I've had no issues with header clearance...

Re: Big block headers for lowered pickup
There are obviously a few headers out there that work fine with BB lowered trucks, Headman seems to be a pretty popular choice, but I had heard that Hooker Super Comps for the Chevelle worked too, anybody got any info or pt #'s on those?

I have Hooker Comp #2455 long tube Chevelle headers on my 496, I have never drug them, lots of pics on my build page. These are 2" tubes with 3 1/2" collectors

Re: Big block headers for lowered pickup
Cheers Mike looks real sweet. I would rather go 3/4 length so they'll be no issues when I eventually bag it.
