Planning speaker setups for a 72 k20 - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

In another month or so i will be starting to re-assemble the cab of my truck. I have been truing to find ideas on mounting some speakers in the truck but i have had no luck. to start with i have 2 brackets for the cab corners that will house a pair of 6x9s, but for front speakers i am unsure where to locate them or what size to get. I do NOT want to cut holes in the door. The kick panel enclosures look out of place to me. is there any other option to installing speakers up front? will the stereo setup sound decent with just the 2 rear 6x9s? Thanks in advance for any info.

Tank in the stock location or rear framerails? Could put a sub enclosure behind or under your seats. could put some mids n highs in the dash. i plan on building a metal/leather covered console and was gonna hide amps and a set of 4s or 5s in there also.

I personally would not like have just a pair of 6x9s in the rears. It would be like going to a concert, turning around, and covering your ears with pillows.

Put a nice pair of 4" in the dash and they will sound good. I made an enclosure that houses (2) Rockford Fosgate Punch 4".

Hey! thought I'd chime in on this..
In a 67 Me and Dad built for a guy a few years back we put his front speakers in the stock vent openings on the kick pans (he was running a vintage air unit so these would not be used) We removed the old flap doors and made our own housings and capped them off. then mount the speakers in the housings. we also put tweaters on the A pillar to balance out the sound in front.
In the rear we used 6x9 in the corners and a sub in the middle of the buckets..

I've got the tank in the rear. Thinking about a sub behind the seats down the road.

Slowcpe does that setup fit in the stock speaker location or elsewhere? Thanks!

Yes I made a bracket so that the speakers sit under the dash in the original mono speaker location.

I just did the stereo in my 69 short step. I put a pair of 5 1/4" co-axials in the door PANELS (this is a great option that if you change your mind you just put a piece of aluminum tape over the hole and a new door panel on.) It is easily hidden if you change your mind and it gets the speaker higher up in the door with tweeters closer to ear level. A single 8" sub under the passengers side of the seat makes for the sound below 150 hz and the 5 1/4's crossed over about the same.

There is none of the reverb issues that larger speakers lower in the doors have and because the speakers are screwed into the panel and the door it is very rigid so doesn't vibrate. These have a 2" mounting depth and you might be able to go 1/4" more before interfering with the window regulator mechanism.

Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.
