2wd NV4500 swap Questions, Help needed
I have searched high and low for information on swapping an NV4500 into a 2wd '68 C10.
I haven't been able to find much. I am trying to figure out (if it's possible), how to install an NV4500 and maintain the Mechanical clutch and mechanical speedo. This seems like this would be a solid upgrade, that still lets me use it like a truck. Can anyone give any advice, or point me to a build thread? This is the closest I could find: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=610659 Except, he used a Hydro clutch and electronic speedo. I'm kind of shooting for "how it would have been" if they offered a 5 speed in 1968. Last edited by Greasey Harley; 02-20-2015 at 03:05 AM. |

Wow, you sure made that simple, quick.
I swear, I searched numerous times and didn't find that info. Thank you. I like to have a solid plan before I go swapping parts. -Do you have any incite on"throwout bearing and pilot bushing issues to address"? -Also, Can it just hang there like the 4 speed, or am I going to fab a cross member? |

Re: 2wd NV4500 swap Questions, Help needed
Might be best to start with the installation PDF.
http://www.advanceadapters.com/downloads/712550.pdf It covers everything needed and using a Ford application throwout bearing allowing the Chevy clutch fork to work properly. As I've posted elsewhere I was first looking at this for a 72 C/30 I had in the late 90's. Basically its a clean swap with the right parts. It bolts up to the bell housing and I was advised at the time unsupported was fine using the existing rear engine mounts on the bell housing. Might want to call them (AA) if you can't find it the provided links.

Here's a thread I started long time ago in hopes of doing it. But my trans was like new so I kept it.

SS Tim is the data man! If it's in print, he has found it and uploaded it. Book smart can be a wonderful thing.

Re: 2wd NV4500 swap Questions, Help needed
I've had a NV4500 under my workbench since last fall and got sidelined by shoulder surgery. I can't wait to get it installed and drive my truck at 65MPH at a reasonable RPM. I bought the Advance Adapters bell.
BTW if you have the original bell from the trans and it isn't cracked, they sell for decent money on eBay. I got $275 for mine, which went a long way toward paying for the AA bell. |
