Newbie needs help regarding '67
Hey all,
I'm new to the forum and new to C10's and had some questions for the veterans of this board. I have an opportunity to pick up a '67 stepside 6cyl manual from a friend of mine for $4k. I'm attaching a few pics for reference, but my main question is, is this a good truck to start with for the price? My intentions are to swap the bed, drop in a 5.3l with auto trans, disc brakes, some suspension and interior work to make it a DD. Any comments, suggestions, warnings, etc. are welcomed! Thank you! |

Looks like a great buy to me. I had a 70 for a long time. It was the best running, driving truck I ever had.

$4000 should buy you a decent short-wide truck, but this $4000 truck will need another $1000-$2500, to become a fleet side, unless you already have a different bed.
Sweet little stepper though. Last edited by Greasey Harley; 02-20-2015 at 05:40 PM. |

Body looks pretty good.
I would replace that mickey mouse Grant wheel. W/o power steering those are hell to pull around parallel parking and in tight spaces. Also they can just pull off of the steering column at the worst times. The stock 16.5" wheel gives you way more leverage. Three on the tree saginaw. The L6 is either a 250 or 230, but Alpine Green paint is unusual. I thought only the early 292s were Alpine Green, 250s were blue, but all motors were Chevy Engine Orange by '67. '67s have no ACC position on the Ignition Switch. Also when you pull the light switch all the way out the parking lights go out. This is normal. I think 4 grand is a little high, but that may be right for your market. I 've had my '68 C/10 Stepside since 1973, so I know they're good trucks. Good luck, and welcome to the board.

Since it's all original it seems with an inline 6 and a stepper, I'd say $2-3gs should get it in your area. $4gs is a bit high for it not being a fleetside, but it looks fairly solid. Any rust issues underneath?

Its not all original, 67 didnt come with lights in the fenders. Why is there only lights on the drivers side?
$4K? Wow, nice if there is no rust. But a lot for somebody fixin to hot rod it. Maybe ok for So.Cal.

Re: Newbie needs help regarding '67
As long as all the rust repair was done correctly to the cab which i assume is the reason for the primer than yes its a pretty darned good start for a project, especially for a shortbed project. Then again, being a california truck maybe it has had no cancer and was a canadate for just getting painted?
Have you checked to see if the VIN on the frame matches the VIN on the cab? Vin # is behind the driver front wheel on the frame, driver door jamb on the cab. Also verify the SPID on the gloove box door too. Have you checked to see if the frame was cut down behind the cab and shortened? or if its an origional short bed truck? If it is what it appears to be then i wouldn't want to pay any more than $4000 for it as it is, primer hides the real story, i'd prefer to be less than $4000 so try and talk the seller down, but if you can afford it it is a great starting point.
