patina look?

Im new to the forum, i ve got a 1970 c10 custom. it has a light coat of grey primer and rust spots. i like the rust maybe want some more surface rust. how do i get the surface rust without it over time rusting holes? sorry the pics upsidown I'm not sure why its like that

The patina trucks have a surface rust saturation of sorts. The rust will get worst but on the big flat surfaces like the hood it will take a long time to rust through as the moisture isn't retained by things like sand or salt.

I had a similar idea with a 56 cadi. We ended up painting it black, rubbed through to red oxide primer in places and airbrushed the rust under the handles, emblems, other likely places. its a rust free solid body that looks like it spent a decade driving in michigan winters lol just a thought, check out and see if houston has some decent airbrush artists to simulate the rust. That way you have the look, but not the surface rust that will eventually rust through.

what I'm gonna do is sand down the primer at the top of each panel and put some hydrogen peroxide on it but i need something to seal it without altering the color of the rust. I've heard that surface rust will not rust thru until after I'm dead or the truck is gone. is that true? I'm going for this.

considering you're in houston and rarely, if ever see snow and salt that might be good. I'm just hoping to run along a nice old southwest truck that looks like that and have it shipped here. lol Well, since you're deadset and have the mats and want to do it with peroxide, good luck and be sure to post up pics. Should look badass when done.

You're in Houston, man. You're gonna need to paint it. The proximity of the Gulf waters means its gonna deteriorate fairly quickly.

Search for the patina burb/ suburban thread here. He used a process to make the rust on top of the paint. Looks cool, & the truck is protected.

well i did what i said i was gonna do with the peroxide and it turned out like crap i don't like it so I'm gonna just sand it down and primer right back over it like it was to begin with. this is how it turned out. (apparently i tok it upsidown with my phone again sorry bout that
