Repo Dash Pads.......whats what?

With the quality of aftermarket parts questionable at times, Im trying to find a quality reproduction dash pad. Every vendor site I visit has NO information regarding how they are constructed, who makes them etc........

Example: Last one purchased from Brothers was made by Dashes Direct.....Not impressed at ALL !! Flimsy as a wet noddle and when attached had more waves in it than the Gulf coast.......

This area needs to be used more often to aid in purchasing quality aftermarket items.... http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/f...play.php?f=236

So what have you bought and how was the quality?

Re: Repo Dash Pads.......whats what?

Did you try the Vinyl pad Dashes Direct makes only comes in a couple of colors but use to be much nicer than there other pad. All the rest are made overseas like the one Truck Shop sells made by Counterparts.

Re: Repo Dash Pads.......whats what?

Tim, I have not seen the one you mention, do you know what the backing material is?

Here is am older repo one I have.
Black Urethane over a rigid fiberglass core...The was an older reproduction offered by Golden State. Nice quality.....The green one is OEM (vinyl over metal core).

Re: Repo Dash Pads.......whats what?

Holding out on purchasing one as the ones Ive seen lately (unk manufacturer) seem pretty flimsy and the saddle color doesnt look right.

Ive read threads referring to a how to post on how to redo the original but cannot find one. Anyone have any success redoing an original?

Re: Repo Dash Pads.......whats what?

I'll jump in and say I got one from Classic parts in KC. Junk like Dahos mentioned. No backing really what so ever. Don't know where they get them though. Kinda spongey. Wavey.
As far as color goes, I bought the light grey and used vinyl paint as it seemed the only way to achieve the exact shade a guy needs.
Subbed for recomendations on a good one.

Re: Repo Dash Pads.......whats what?

I bought my sandalwood dash pad several years ago from a vendor I learned of off this site. It is of great quality and fitment was also very good. Not flimsy at all. I can't remember who the vendor was, but I will do some research in my Blazer file tonight.

it's been a while since I looked, but Brothers was the only one offering sandalwood.

I won't be much help because it was '01, but I got one from LMC for my '72. I pulled it around '07 and sold it to another member when I changed colors. It looked great and still looked new. He had no complaints, either. Who knows if they sell the same product still. It wasn't floppy. All else I've used was N.O.S.

Re: Repo Dash Pads.......whats what?

Clarity isn't very good on my iPad. Mine is from brothers but seems very solid. I'm sure I could hang a 30 pound weight from each end and it won't flex. Finish is very nice as well. I just got this a few weeks back. Perhaps they switched vendors?

It is one piece of solid plastic. Molded entirely in red. Nice exterior textured finish as on original.

Have a dyeable one.

http://justdashes.com/GuageDashPad.htm
Has one that says is avail in any color. However it is custom. Personally I think it is very neat. Gauges are built in. However may just be a cover.

I'd call the various vendors like lmc, gmc Paul's, etc. they may just have a leftover one.

Re: Repo Dash Pads.......whats what?

I got min about 10 years ago from GMCPAUL'S. It was from Dashes Direct and it had a metal core like the original. It was black and held up really well until I sold it last year because I changed interior colors.
