I would like to move the battery on my '57 under the cab. It's my understanding that the battery in the '47-'55 trucks is mounted under the cab. If so, has anyone moved their battery on a 55-59 and, if so, where you able to use an earlier box and if not, how did you mount it?.

I plan to do the same thing on my 59. I ordered a battery door for a 47-53 that I will fit in the floor and I plan to make a battery box out of angle iron that will place the battery between the floor and step.

I used a drop down box from Jegs for $99 and mounted it to the frame under the cab step on the passenger side. Gotta drop the sliding part of the box completely out to swap the battery but the terminals are easily accessed in the lower, dropped position. Can't see the box when looking under the truck when it's up.

It's easiest to install a box like this when the cab is off the frame, but I did it with an angle drill with the cab in place.

Made mine from angle iron and some flat stock using the idea from pic's I took many years ago. Battery slides out to the rear if needed.

i mounted the battery in truk behind the passenger seat

best one i've seen and i would have done it on truk except i had already painted the cab
was a door mounted in the pass step well with access to the battery thru the door
it was posted in this forum, maybe some knows the truck

I did mine that way, easy access to the battery and a homemade drop down box. Be aware that low trucks will keep the battery from being as easy to change, even with the drop down box. I think I've posted pics here before but here again, just in case. Even though the wells are painted, the carpet covers the door and is held in place by lower Velcro strip on the pass. side.
