Cool still not running right, what's the problem here

90 burb 350 TBI changed fuel filter and now it has killed at the stop light twice, starts right back up but still a pita. Can't find my spark plug socket, so no tune up yet. It idles smooth then rough and vibrates so I've been having to keep my foot on gas and brake to keep it running, then it smooths out again. Does this sound like this may be a timing issue? Always starts and it only does this in drive while sitting. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

90 burb 350tbi probably 300,000 miles. Shifts perfect.

Checked alternator it was fine. Also, there is two batteries actually hooked up, which is odd. One needs to be charged as I was told by autozone.

Check you idle control valve on the passenger side of the throttle body! The tps will be in the center and the idle control valve will be just to the left of it! A crescent wrench will back it out easily.

What is the red flag when I take it out? I'm new to TBI will the truck run without it? Thanks!

What you need to do is try and recreate the problem! When you unplug it the truck usaully runs as you have described. You can keep it running the way you have described also! No it wont run right without it, so it has to have it to operate correctly. Usually when you can recreate the problem intentionally you have found the issue!

Re: still not running right, what's the problem here

I had the same problem once and it turned out to be the TB to intake gasket. Mine looked good but I guess it wasn't sealing anymore. My Deville was doing the same thing and it was the TB to intake hose that had a crack in it.

Unfortunately it could be a lot of things, it's just an educated guess and a process of elimination. The IAC is definitely a good place to look. Could be a vacuum leak. How old is the fuel pump?

Re: still not running right, what's the problem here

I agree "it could be alot of things", my '90 quit running and showed to be the fuel pump -but was actually just the sock on the end of the pump. (that was at least 20 yrs ago )

With that high of mileage there will be alot to look over, find out what all has been replaced already by the previous owner.
