motor mount location

I'm installing a 305sbc/turbo 350 trans in my 53 GMC longbed.I have a mustang 11 suspension .Is there any preference or layout to where the engine sits. I'm going to use block hugger headers. I want to put engine and trans together then install in truck.

Re: motor mount location

I have a mustang 2 with stock boxed frame setup and the centerline of my motor mounts ended up above the rear edge of the mustang 2 crossmenber. I bolted my block hugger headers on and centered and positioned the motor and trans combo so everything would clear then welded in my mounts accordingly. I put my motor as low and far back to the firewall as possible which should help handling. I also had the cab on to make sure distributor and valve covers would clear the firewall.
