I used loctight red gasket maker on 2 465's without a leak. Stuff is expensive but works great.

I use a very thin coating of gasket sealer. Meaning you could read through it. That accomplishes 2 things. First if there are any surface flaws that the gasket itself wont take care of, it will fill. And second, if I have to remove it later, it will come apart easier.

Spray Permatex or Loctite High-Tack on the gaskets and wait 5 minutes. Stick em on and bolt em up... It's just there to keep the gaskets from sliding round as you put in the bolts.
Honestly you could use some stiff tacky grease and a small paint brush in most cases. As long as the gasket is stuck to the part long enough to get the bolts in and tight you're fine. The side covers are small enough I'd just put em on with dry gaskets.

spray on Permatex red hi-tack is all I ever use. Never had a leak or a comeback from using it.
Spray it on both sides of the gasket. I do 2 coats let each coat set up for 5 to 10 minutes then slap it together.

I like a soft gasket sealant High tack is more for holding it in place. There is a gray gasket maker we get from Ford T44 for Navistar. when i worked on Heavy eguipment Komatsu had same thing in there tube. like JR6 sure bet its all made by same company.
old permatex worked great just a pain in Butt after it hardened. that black silicon Permatex has is good.
