2005 gmc 1500 factory wiring harness for trailer
I have a question about the factory wiring plugin by the spare for a trailer hookup--Do I just plug the 6? way into the trailer and have brakes? I have trailered many times but not heavy enough to use a trailer and laws requiring brakes.Do I need a seperate controller? lots of questions here TY.

If the truck does not have a brake controlller already you will have to install one.
I added a controller for my particular truck and it was a mear plug n play as there is a plugin under the dash just for this. Easypeasy. Mine is a 2006 gmc.

Re: 2005 gmc 1500 factory wiring harness for trailer
I added a brake controller last year for my truck, supper easy. I bought a curt from E-trailer.com.... If you go to there website they have a good video that shows exactly where the brake controller plugs into under the dash. I spent a lot of time on the website looking at different trailer and truck related videos.

Sort of related, what is the part number for the rear wire harness that plugs into where the brake lights connect under the body? Mine is a 2002 1500 and the wires have been DIY by the prior owner to hell would prefer something clean.
