Did washer pumps all mount to the wiper motor?Z - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

The washer pump I have is mounted to the firewall kinda behind brake booster. My parts guy said it should be mounted to the wiper motor. When I put a new wiper motor in it did not come with a washer pump on it. Does anyone know if every year of GMC Trucks had them on the wiper motors or is there some yrs that were external as mine is?

67 - 72 were all stock like that. It was a pretty comon set up at the time.

The washer motor is sold separately but it mounts on the same bracket as teh wiper motor. They are interlinked and coordinated so that the washer squirts intermittantly between blade swashes.

See my other post, asking about why mine is acting funny right now.

The motor you have would be an after market one that someone probably put on there to avoid having to dig into the dashboard to get to the OEM one. If you've replaced the wiper motor, you already know what a pain it is to get to.

My stock setup consisted of the wiper motor and the washer pump. There was no washer motor...it ran off the wiper motor.

Replacing the wiper motor was an easy job in my truck, took less than an hour, and didn't have to remove anything besides the gas pedal bracket.

mine was mounted to the wiper motor. of course it didnt work when i got the truck. i just put a new one in the engine bay and cut the hoses to the old one.

I'll be doing this also, only because I want TOTAL control of when and how much wiper fluid gets squirted. I'm a dictator when it comes to stuff like that,

Already been there, done that, and never looking back. I can pee harder than the stock set up.

(No, I am not going to pee on my windshield either)

I also did the aftermarket pump on the firewall in the engine bay. I tried to rebuild the original, what a pain. Then I said screw it, I don't want this thing leaking in my cab. I too have never looked back.
