I need help lowering my 67 C10 SWB
How much can I lower the front of my, 67 C10 short wheelbase, by cutting the coil springs, and how much can I cut off? I know the ride will suffer but I can live with it untill the extra cash is avalable to purchise new lowering springs.Is there a way to lower the rear without buying new lowering springs? They are coil springs also. Tkanks for any advise

I just lowered my 69 C10 by cutting one full coil off the springs. It dropped approximately 2 inches on mine, and everything I read said it will drop 1.5-2 inches. Keep in mind an alignment will be in order after cutting the springs. When cutting the springs, I used a chop saw. NEVER use a torch, that will compromise the integrity of the springs.
I lowered the back by using drop blocks. I ordered mine from POL, but a number of companies carry them, or you can build your own if you prefer. I used 1.5 drop blocks. I think I have seen 1", 1.5", and 2" drop blocks, and they allow you to keep your stock springs. Hope this helps.

I used rear springs from a Jeep TJ ser. dropped the rear 4 inches . I did cut one coil off the front and it came down 2 inches. next time I'll buy drop spindles. the front lower control arms really come up. I barely got it aligned. drop blocks are a good way to go but be careful. if you 15 inch wheel the ubolts will be on the ground if ya get a flat.

As mentioned above, cutting 1 coil will get you about 2 inches. I have done more but I do not recommend it as they can move around and make noise. Drop springs are cheap. If you want more than 3 in front drop start looking at other things such as springs, spindles, lower control arms, bags etc.

I think that if you really want the drop look it's easier and safer to use spindles and springs up front and springs in the back. Never ever have liked cutting or heating springs. Improperly heating can change to metallurgy and cause them to become brittle. Brittle springs is not a good idea. That being said I'm sure if you search hard enough someone here has the info

used Classic performance parts, 2 inch dropped spindles, and 2inch lower drop springs, front, and 5 inch drop springs in the rear. Have to angle into the driveway or the front cross member scraps. |
