Large fuel tanks for 3+3 trucks?
I am looking for a crew cab long bed. I am trying to find out about fuel tank size. Does anyone know of a large fuel tank (40 gal) that is available for the trucks.
Thanks Chris

Re: Large fuel tanks for 3+3 trucks?
I was hoping for twin 35gallon tanks. Maybe I can have a fuel cell made. How tight is it under there? Also is there a way to fill both tanks from the driver side? I don't know much about these trucks.
Chris

How about 2x 20 gal tanks and a 40 gal suburban tank in the back

Man that would be one expensive rig to fill carrying 80 gals of fuel!

Re: Large fuel tanks for 3+3 trucks?
I have a 2004 dodge that I want to replace. I have a 60gal Titan tank under it and 90 gal in the bed. I don't know why I love having so much fuel I just do. Lol plus it lets me plan my stops for cheap fuel when traveling with the family.
What about fueling both tanks from one side? Chris

Re: Large fuel tanks for 3+3 trucks?
My 84 has 2 20 gallon tanks with an aftermarket fill crossover. I believe there was a thread mentioning them somewhere on the forum. It works pretty well, but if it is filled too fast, gas will shoot out of both fillers like a kid drinking milk who just heard a joke.

Re: Large fuel tanks for 3+3 trucks?
Thanks for the info guys it gives me a few ideas.
I will read your link. Are you using twin tanks plus the 40 gal suburban tank? I like have a good range in driving so I can plan my stops according to fuel prices. I travel a lot. I will do another Cummins swap or a duramax swap in it if I buy the one I am looking at. Chris

Re: Large fuel tanks for 3+3 trucks?
I replaced my 2-20gal tanks with a single 40 gal tank. I am running longer rear leaf springs and the front spring hanger had to be moved forward. It would have worked with 16gal tanks but not my 2-20gal. You can do a 25gal or 31gal suburban/K5 tank even easier than the 40gal (I think), the 40gal tank is a tight fit even with a long bed.

Re: Large fuel tanks for 3+3 trucks?
so two 16 and a 40gal all under the truck? That sounds like a winning ticket! I going to have to think about a 3 way switch to select what tank I am on. My in bed tank just gravity fed the main tank and had a float to stop it from overflowing.
Thanks for the information. How beefy are the frames? Are the boxed frame? I thought I saw they were c-channel frame Chris

Re: Large fuel tanks for 3+3 trucks?
If you are running stock length rear springs you can run 2-20gal tanks plus a rear tank, my set up just would allow it.
The frame rails on the 73-87(91) 1tons are beefier then some but they are still C-channel. They are taller and use thicker material then the 1/2 and 3/4ton frames though.

Re: Large fuel tanks for 3+3 trucks?
Thanks. I am hoping that the truck I found down in Tucson Az is as good as the photos. It will keep me from cutting up my suburban into a crewcab. I am really wanting a crewcab.
I'm 6'4" and will have the bench all the way back. Can an adult fit comfortable in the back seat? My son is 6'2 and 250lb. I hate moving my seat for him. lol Chris
