OK To Mix Regular & Synthetic Transmission Fluids?
A local retail store has some Synthetic ATF marked down to a couple bucks a quart.
Is it OK to mix Synthetic with regular automatic transmission fluids? It would be used for top-offs and maybe a pan re-fill with a filter change. I have a late 70's TH350 in my 72 C/10 and the 200R4 overdrive in my 84 Caprice. |

If it's a transmission you plan to get rid of soon who cares. But if you're concerned about longevity then don't mix viscosities. And synthetic to regular is not the same viscosity. Plus they have different properties. I would not do it, unless it was in interim transmission I planned to scrap in a few miles.

Taking a pass on the synthetic.
Seems it was more compatible with newer transmissions. After much research on this site, sounds like sticking with the Dexron conventional is best for the old school transmissions. |
