the lockup in a 700 is not electronic. its operated by 12 volts and a pressure switch..you can get a 700 convertor without the lockup clutch,it usually only used in very high stall applications.and in my opinion the 700 sucks without the lockup..the MPG increase is very worth it,..and when its locked up its direct...no converter slipping at all=no heat=lower RPMs=better MPG
