How long till check engine light goes off after replacing sensor?

Had a O2 sensor not reading last night causing a check engine light....replaced it. I know I can disconnect the battery at it will reset but I am told that driving it for an x amount miles will also clear it. Is this true and how long man miles does it take to clear?

It will depend on the code that is stored. Some need a certain number of passes to turn the light off, and then more to clear the code in history.

I am assuming this is your 96. Please put year/make/model/engine in your post

How did you come to the conclusion that it needed an oxygen sensor. If you used a code reader or scan tool, just use that to clear the code.

Re: How long till check engine light goes off after replacing sensor?

My truck can not use Bosch O2s. When I tried them, I drove for nearly 40 miles before it came on.

If the replacements you used are good. It should be anywhere up to that long before it goes back out.

But then again you may not have a problem with the actual sensor either. You may have a wiring issue or if in the case of the rear O2s, the problem is sometimes the cat and not the O2.

You never told us anything about your vehicle.

I never said you used Bosch. I said I tried them and it caused a problem which gave a delayed reaction similar to yours. Sir.

Glad you paid 27 bucks. What that has to do with anything, I don't know.

Why you bought 4 and used 1 I have no idea.

Why you bought the 2 after cat sensors is a mystery. If your vehicle uses 4.

Why you never told us anything about your vehicle is a mystery. We have to now deduce you have a 96 or later since you bought 4(but did not use them all). Or did you buy 2 sets of front O2s? We don't know.

If that weren't confusing enough, your name makes us believe (again cause you didn't bother to tell us anything about your vehicle) that you drive a 72.

You sir are a d****e

lol....i wish I still had my 72. I wrecked her really bad three years ago. Slid off an icy road into an embankment and rolled. I bought 2 upstream an 2 down stream because I was going to do all brand new ones. I also ordered a new cat system. I was going to do that all at once but its been way too cold. Then the check engine lights shows up 2 days before inspection for emissions. 96 5.7 K1500. All is well!! no hard feeling broo.
