Selling them! I snagged a few of the really nice items off of it for myself and found the more plain jane stuff from the salvage yard to keep the truck still nice, but I'll make a few bucks selling some of the little items like the mirrors. Sold the dash insert too (for $50 plus s/h), replaced it with a Scottsdale one I got for 12 bucks at the yard that was just as nice, but needed a Chevy one for the facelift. Sport mirrors should sell for 50 plus s/h and I got the newer great condition Mickey Mouse ear mirrors for 20.

I fixed this truck up a bit from when I bought it (rebuilt carb, new starter, new distributor just the other night). Just sold it to a friend's younger brother. He's coming tonight to pick it up! He's so excited to have an old school Chevy (GMC) to work on he just can't stand it and I'm excited for him!

Re: Project Red Ryder

Well the engine blew up Sunday afternoon on his trip back home. I didn't feel right about selling him something that blew up, so I told him to tow it back to my house and I would give him his money back. Parting this truck out now in the for sale section. So sad. Sniff...

Re: Project Red Ryder

Yeah, knocks me down to about 1/3 of the money really quick. I don't understand how the F his dad blew it up unless he was trying to drive in 2nd gear at 70 or something. Or perhaps the timing slipped and advanced and took the piston out. I hate it when someone who blew up the engine can't tell me squat about what happened. Dang uneducated people!!! Learn to understand what your engine is telling you! The motor never had a tick, knock, or otherwise before this. It was one of the most quiet SBC's I've ever heard. Always had great oil pressure and didn't smoke on startup like nearly all SBC's of a certain age do.

If anything I would like to hear "hey, it was revving really high like it wouldn't shift" or "it was pinging like a submarine on a whale's butt"... Then at least I would know what went wrong. So sad.

Re: Project Red Ryder

Hate seeing the ole gal get parted out. If you only lived closer I'd be over to pick through the parts. So many good parts. Darn I hate it for you. Hopefully you'll recover some of your funds.

Re: Project Red Ryder

Yeah, but being my friend's dad and him knowing NOTHING about cars/trucks makes it so much worse. Funds for parting it out will be roughly 1/2 to 2/3 of the value of the truck as a whole. Wish the body wasn't so rough on the rockers/fenders or I probably would have thrown together a motor for it. Sucks bad. It's not even really the funds, it's the fact that it ran TOTALLY FINE and had great oil pressure and never made a tick or funny noise EVER. It just had to be the distributor slipped or they adjusted it and it pinged itself to death. It's the only thing that makes sense as to why a piston would die on a stock 350 that never made a noise. I could see if it had been rattling for a while and ate the ring lands, but just... damn.

Re: Project Red Ryder

Funny story, well sort of. Years ago I was driving a beat up old '80 Mazada GLC to work and back. Nothing fancy and nothing great. It got me to work. Drove it everyday seven days a week to work. I let my mom take it to work one day and it spun a rod bearing. I have no idea what happened but it just happened. Sold the car with a rod knock to a friend who threw the rod out the side of the block. Oh well....
