abandon project found...67-68 4x4

Got a call to go check out a 68 chevy shortbed 4x4 project that has been sitting for quite awhile. The restoration was started many years ago. Frame looks to have all been done, engine has been rebuilt, but been sitting so long it is froze up. He thought it was a 68, but all the clues i see look to be a 67. The original cab and vin were scrapped along with the glovebox door. Looks like this will all be parts. Can't imagine there were too many 67 short 4x4 trucks with a v-8. (if it is still correct.) The engine decoded to a 67 283 for pass or truck. Took 2 trips to get everything home.
Any way to say if it is a 67 or 68? I added the pic of the 2 leaf tapered springs in the rear if that narrows down the year.
Enjoy the pics as i know you all want to see.

Friggin' sweet. My wife would whoop my butt, if I dragged that home.
...But I would anyway
Nice score

In 67 there was no dimple in the frame for power steering, I believe in 68 frames there was a dimple. What you got?

No title, no vin, no glovebox door. She will all be parts i'm afraid. Had a couple of owners before me and the second one back is trying to find the title, but i know how that will go. Lots of good parts anyways.

Re: abandon project found...67-68 4x4

Frame/engine may be 67 but that cab is not. The passenger side of the firewall is smoothed out for a big block which Chevy did in 68 to compensate for the new option of the 396, also on the passenger door jamb there's is a circular recessed area with a screw to mount a spring type bracket for the 68-72 Jack tools, 67 and early 68's have that portion of the door jamb smooth and the Jack tools are kept under the seat. The other things for the 67-68 cab differences is the dash, if it has a large igintion hole that's for a 68-72 ignition bezel, and if there is a dimple for the cigarette lighter hole and the hole is more centered in its respective area then that's for a 68-72 which could come with a aluminum bezel around the cigarette lighter, 67 has no dimple, it's just a hole drilled in the dash and the hole isn't quite center in that little "squared" area of the dash

Re: abandon project found...67-68 4x4

Here's a picture I've made for reference to the ignition and cigarette lighter differences, note the ashtray is also different 67's have a really flat pancaked face and 68-72 have a fatter face, 68-71 uses ball bearings and 72 uses plastic sliders as well

Re: abandon project found...67-68 4x4

67chevy1series. Thanks for the info. As stated, the original cab and all info is gone. I think the cab sitting on the frame is a 70 4x4 cab judging by the firewall.

Re: abandon project found...67-68 4x4

Don't know what to do with this thing so i threw some metal at it today so it kinda looks like a truck again... Plus i don't have to trip over the extra parts. On the way back burner now.
