Factory engine Paint Colors?

I am just curious what the original color options are for my 1970 C10. I have a factory BB 402 that is blue. I am going to do some work to it and re-paint. My guess is that somebody did a rebuild previously and painted it this color (why? who knows!).

I thought most Chevy motors came in hugger orange..?

What do you think guys?

Thanks

Should be Chevrolet Orange for some reason or another most rebuilds are a blue color. The later motors went to a corporate blue that is very close to your motor then in the 80's the motors went to black I had read to help cover oil leaks from rear main leaks and valve covers and the like. you know if you can't see them your a lot less likely to file a warranty claim. I've had a few 1970 Chevys and they all has chevy orange painted engines. I've seen later 454s painted blue.

Are you sure it's a 402? Just checking because a later 454 would have been blue and that motor may have been rebuilt before it made it's way into this truck. Just a thought.

Re: Factory engine Paint Colors?

Hi Special-K, yes I am sure it's a 402. I've run the numbers... Everything I have researched indicates it's the original 402 that came in my CST/400's for 1970.

I have heard from friends, and my mechanic that often times rebuilders opted for blue after finishing a rebuild. Why? Who knows? So folks would know it was rebuilt I guess...... Nowadays I would insist on hugger orange. I am gonna do a cam swap which means top end and oil pan can be painted... but the block is still blue. Uhg!

Thanks!
