Cab repair panels
Income tax returns are coming up prety soon, and with that, brings truck money.
I have some questions for anyone who has done the patch panel deal. 1. Best prices...who has them? I was looking in my referance book (LMC...never buy from them, just use the pictures) and I see I am over 100 bucks already, can anyone knock that price down by much? (I'll try to look on the vendor's sites this evening, but if some one can tell me exactly where to go...) 2. Whats the deal with the 'slip on' cab supports? Are they any good, or a half ass fix? (They are 1/2 the price is why I ask) I am looking at 2 cab corners, 2 inner rockers, 2 outer rockers, and if memory serves, (been a while since I looked under my extra cab) all cab supports. It may just be 2 of them...but I'm planning on the worst. The floors are in pretty decent shape with just a small hole on the drivers side at the front of the door. I plan on coating everything from the floor boards down with POR 15, both inside and out. I have been toying with coating the back side of all the panels too like the doors, fenders and bed. (I get the stuff pretty cheap) Looks like my cheap quickie paint job is snow balling like a mo-fo. |

I would send a list of what I needed to the vendors on the BB and ask for quotes.I know Tim Christian gives pretty nice discounts if you pick stuff up at shows.He usually has at least one or two show specials that are really screaming deals.

junkyarddog1956, that is the exact testimonial I am looking for. Like I said, i don't plan on buying from LMC, nothing they sell fits properly.
A list is a good idea PanelDeland. I'll have to do that. Anyone else with testimony...good or bad? |

Patch panels
I went with GMC Pauls, Good fit, Good price. I got two new doors and every other patch panel for the cab. Floors , cab corners, rockers,door jam bottoms, kick panels,etc. He beat every one else by about two hundred dollars.

Only reason I can think of is that it's a nasty job, in which case I'd want to use the best and hope I didn't have to do it over.

I can't see using the slip on cab mounts because you'd just be hidin' that rusty old mount under it... Definitely half ass'd. You gotta weld 'em in place anyway so why not get rid of the old

i bought all mine from southern kentucky classics, but i live close enough to go get them myself.... they all fit good and look to be good quality IMO
i wouldnt get the slip on cover things, they can trap moisture/etc from what ive heard and make the old rust out worse and the new rust out quick

I would not do the slip over deal. And I would stick to board vendors. I would think that they would take better care of you, and would have the better fitting metal. Are you gonna fix up the blue cab and swap that on? THE BLUE LONGHORN CAN LIVE ON!!!!!

well if you are selling the truck right away, id go with the slip on, but otherwise do it right and never worry. Most of the patch panels that different vendors sell come from the same manufactures across the sea, unless they specify that they manufacture it themselves. So i guess the best thing would be to shop around

Ok, cool. No slip on crap. I've heard enough to convince me.
I have been getting some pretty good info on a few vendors, some good, and some bad, and then some local companies that are unheard of. (No shipping!!!) Jason, yes, the blue cab will be seeing the light of day again, and will end up on the one ton. Longhoen 1 and longhorn 2 together...would that be longhorn 3 then? |

Andy, I got a great deal on my patch panels from WES. I am sure all the board suppliers are good but WES gave me a smoking deal on all my panels. They will all need a little massaging. Use as little of the patch panel as possible to minimize your work. My '67 cab had the slip-on supports and they were shot and rusted through. Inside the old slip-ons were the originals...just crumpled rust and mud! I have never seen such a mess. Just replace them and get as much of the rust out as possible. Go for the video too!
