Anyone Got Tips for Removing Air Temperature Sensor (inside Air Filter)?

Hi,

I've got a 78 C10 Big Ten. I took the air cleaner off today with the hopes of sanding it all down nicely and repainting it the original black color. I was unable to find a way to remove the air temperature sensor (the little doohickey inside the air cleaner). I figured before I break anything, maybe I should post a question on here.

Anyone got any tips for removing the air temperature sensor? The clips holding down the hoses are a tad rusty.

When I removed the charcoal pre filter I used a heat gun. I had the whole lower housing pretty hot. And just about everything came off very easy at that point.

If it is like most I have seen, it is held in by a PITA metal clip on the underside. I have had some success by using something like a scratch awl to pry the teeth of the clip open a little bit. Once you get the clip off, you can bend the teeth back in place. Sometimes. I am guessing the new ones came with a new clip.

I pried the clip up a bit with a screwdriver to get it a bit loose, then just kept rocking it back and forth while pulling and it came off with a little cussin'.

Thanks. Now I know I am not going crazy. I'll try the gentle pry job. If that does not work, I will just tape off the little intake thingies on the other side and paint. Im only interested in painting the outside.

I would probably just tape it off and paint. If you break that clip, they're a bugger to find.
