Just crawl into the back and sleep diagonal on 4 sleeping pads. I have an assortment of tents, too.
I try to get out 2-3 times a year, for deer, pig & elk hunts. It seems though, that the last couple years it's been less than that as I've not been drawn for deer or elk (big game hunting is lottery based in AZ.) Also, I haven't had the truck fit to head out there for a while so I'll usually drive up to my brother's place in Flagstaff and catch a ride from him.

I am hoping that the truck will be done and ready for Deer & Elk this winter.

Do you ever hunt The North Rim? I lived in Mountainaire a while and they had the lottery even back then (35 years ago), for elk.

Actually heading up there in a couple of weekends, for a 4-day adventure weekend. I just wish that the truck was ready to go with me.

Re: Let's Go Camping

Nothing like doing it with style...in an old truck. I love the North Rim. I'd be happy to go in a Yugo (if it would make it there and back). I blew out one of the exhaust manifolds on a '71 coming down off of there. Drift, brake, drift, brake all the way down. Then hit the throttle at the bottom and bla bla bla all the way back to Flagstaff for some el cheapo headers

Similar experience here. I actually lost the frame-side mount on my Z-bar, completely losing any chance at a clutch. I ended up coming out from an elk hunt, on the south rim, all the way back into Flagstaff without a clutch, dry shifting my truck the entire way. Everything was fine until I started hitting the stop signs and lights in town.

Re: Let's Go Camping

Oh yeah, the old "got no clutch (get the F out of my way) gotta get home" blues

One thing you gotta love about granny gear. The truck moves pretty well with that little electric motor. I bent the tie rod on some rocks messing around somewhere out there. I managed to "wander" home just fine ...heh heh

I kind of like the idea of having my own porch and carport when I travel.

Re: Let's Go Camping

I saw this one at my local Lowe's. The owner caught me taking a picture and made a joke that pics were $5 each. That opened the door for a quick conversation about it but I can't recall any other details than it 4x4 with a Cummins diesel and Allison trans.

How about that? Even has a place to work under the hood in bad weather. find a place to squat and you're good. Get run off, find another. BLM has zillions of acres
When I lived near Flagstaff I had a buddy who lived on BLM land in an old Scotty camper. He drove an old Capri, He had a 100# propane tank and everything ran on that. He would just relocate it every so often to abide by the regs. Might not be the desired way to live, but it'll getcha by a while if need be. He sure saved a lot of rent money

Re: Let's Go Camping

Annual Thanksgiving trip with friends over to southeast Utah... a good time for sure. Best camp food ever!

Special-K, you gotta make it back out here sometime. The west has changed for sure, but if you get out far enough, it still feels remote and unsettled...

You are right, I do. Life (was wife) has kept me here but the west has stayed in my heart. I know things have changed, but there's just so much land that it still just takes getting out of town and there you are with yourself and the land
