CPP Brakes Squeak

Hello,

Has anyone installed CPP disc brakes and then had them squeak? I installed mine around Christmas and they worked great but now the passenger side squeaks. They work fine but it is annoying. A friend of mine has the same issue with a recent install of CPP brakes on a 64. More importantly has anyone figured out a way to stop them from squeaking?

Thanks,
Jim

Re: CPP Brakes Squeak

My sons 70 LWB truck has Mcgaughys and have been on about a year and they are starting to squeak. So I plan to change the pads. not sure if this helps just wanted to let you know its probably not just CPP....

Re: CPP Brakes Squeak

Pull the pads off and put some anti-sieze on the back sides where the caliper piston touches the pad and anywhere else it looks like there may be metal-on-metal contact. This is usually the culprit and not the pads. It has to do with the pads vibrating against the caliper piston when pressure is applied.

Try it out, see if it works, and let me know. It's always worked for me (my new CPP brakes squealed after a few weeks and this solved it). Since then, every brake install gets this treatment and no mo' squeakin'.

Re: CPP Brakes Squeak

RManson,

DO you use any special brand or just a brake pad anti squeak that you get from an auto store. I will give it try now that we are finally above freezing again in NY.

Thanks,
Jim

Re: CPP Brakes Squeak

It has nothing to do with CPP, but probably the install. Did you use any anti-squeak stuff when you put them in? Not that I ever do, but some people seem to need that stuff.

Also, what type of pads are you using and did you follow the bedding in procedure 100% properly?

I've tried many remedies over the years for brake squeak, I've used mixtures that soak the pad, coat the backsides, rubber bushings between the caliper bolt and the pad, etc., they all have their effectiveness some better some worse but have never seen a real permanent fix.

It's the nature of the beast, IMO.

However, I installed new rotors and ceramic pads on my wife's Malibu, and it hasn't squeaked since.

Re: CPP Brakes Squeak

I use the same plain ol' anti-seize that I use for hardware and such.
