Can I use the Dynamo, or should I put on an alternator
At present my truck has a dynamo, when it gets a v8 it will have an alternator, is there any benefit in fitting the alternator now with the i6, and if I do this can I reuse the alternator that I will be buying?
Also I have seen guides in the Internet to fit the alternator to the i6 but not located one for sale yet, anybody know what I should be looking for or a pet number? It's a 235 engine from what I can tell. If that makes a difference.

Re: Can I use the Dynamo, or should I put on an alternator
I think the main thing is to only spend the money once.
If the dynamo (generator) is 6 volt or 12 volt and not charging or the regulator isn't working go with the alternator now. All things considered it might be easier to just wire the alternator into the system now so it is all set up and wired in with the new wiring. That would be one less thing to contend with when you do swap engines. Most of us run a Delco 7157 frame alternator which is an internal regulator alternator that fits cars and trucks from 1973 to about 1983. Those can be set up on a six cylinder pretty easily and are standard on most 350 engines.

Re: Can I use the Dynamo, or should I put on an alternator
thanks, don't know if dynamo is charging, looks like somebody did a rush job to convert from positive earth to negative, and the wiring is not the best, so replacing that, as i can use the same alternator, getting a $50 adaptor to put it on the 6 cyl is good for me, as i can reuse later

Mr48 I have heard them referred to as the 10SI? Comes in a variety of amperage depending on what equipment you are running. 63 is pretty common.
