VIN Number = what engine size ? 95'GMC K1500

Sorry I have been away from my (this) truck for sometime and memory has faded so I not sure which engine it has. I have been reading other posts in this section and from what I can tell is this truck with one of two v8's; a 5.0 =305ci and 5.7 = 350ci. I also see that by reading the VIN number a person smarter than me can tell what engine is installed?, I hope so.

This is what I know(remember...); Seem's to me it might be a 5.7
1995 GMC SLE K1500, ext cab w/short bed (suppose to be a heavy duty ?)

VIN 2GTEK19K25S1549409

You have too many digits in the VIN and it's not 25S It could be 2SS but as he said it's 5.7L

I did find the emissions tag on the core support and it is a 5.7. Thanks for all the help.

OK' I admit I am slow "What is a GMT400 truck? " And yes I have learned it is a bastard year.

For what it's worth > I felt good when I bought it new & found out it was made in Canada

GMT400 is the the full size truck line from 88-98(00 for crew cab and heavy duty)

95 isn't a bad year. Nice refreshed interior and tried and true tbi engine. Not quite as much power as the vortec, but still a solid engine.

Re: VIN Number = what engine size ? 95'GMC K1500

My regret with 95' VS 96', I have an EX cab & in 96' GM brought out the small doors. Otherwise I must say I have been happy with this truck. Interior does mean a whole bunch to me, where it might to someone else.

I am usually playing with the fellows on the older truck site 73-87; but I am getting my 95' out of moth balls to use as my Daily Driver

I also have a 79' K-30 Cheyenne, single cab & SRW. It has a 350ci=355hp crate motor. A lot of truck folks seem to get excited about it. It's the truck I use if I need to pull stumps

What makes the interior one year only? The seats, door panels, all the trim, it's the same. The only thing different between 95 and 96 interior is the adjustable seat belt and the ashtray. The rear speaker moved down to allow room for the seat belt mechanism. That's only on reg cab trucks.

The pass air bag didn't come out until 97. The 95 dash is the same as 96.

The wiring changed all the time in these trucks.

The heater controls are the same if the truck doesn't have a/c. 95 vs 96 and up.

Nope I found out the hard way. The 95 trucks use different plugs on the back of the heater controls compared to the 96 and newer.

Re: VIN Number = what engine size ? 95'GMC K1500

'94 has new grille/old interior. Vehicles constantly evolve, so what constitutes a bastard year? As long as parts aren't rare it makes no difference. My '92 K3500 was a 6.5TD. those were introduced late in the year only in 8-lug regular cab trucks. For years parts counters showed no listing for '92 6.5TD and I learned to call it a '92. Only these late and limited '92s and '93s used the mechanical injection. I guess you could call my '92 a bastard and in this case that was a good thing.

My question is, what does this have to do with engine denotations in the VIN? Did '95s not follow the GMT400 system used throughout?

88-94 stayed pretty much the same interior wise and everything could swap across if needed.

95 has a different interior than the other years and has a bunch of other oddities to it as well.

96+ are all the same and nothing changed except a few minor things.

Most people who are familiar with the GMT400 line refer to the 95 as the bastard year.

Non A/C controls are the same. Trucks with A/C had a different control assembly.

The only other difference would be if you had a rear defroster.

It's still (referred to as) a GMT400.

The GMT800 came out in 1999.

I knew that, Keith, but thanks anyway. I was just trying to make sense of this guy's jabber. Doesn't seem to have a point, or anything to offer related to this thread, so I'm done here

He's right I had the same experience. The plugs are different.

Some stuff is unique or shared with only one other year but most of the interior parts interchange with the 96-up GMT-400 line so there are tons of potential donors. Some nice upgrades available that way too.

Mechanical parts like the 4-wheel ABS computer and pump are also the same as the newer ones.

Decent used parts for the 95 interior are still around because of the interchange with the newer ones. Finding good pieces for my 89 is much tougher.
