Need advice on which truck to keep
I traded my old Kawasaki Ninja 600 motorcycle for this 85 C10 short bed a couple days ago. The problem is that I can only have one C10 at this time due the space limitations. I will list what both trucks are.
1968 C10 LWB. Pretty solid truck with good patina for around here. would need both cab corners, outer rear supports, RH outer rocker, and a couple patches in the bed floor to repair the rust on it. Again, it is not that bad and could be left like it is for awhile. It basically has no options other then the side trim, 4 speed and V8. I have recently installed a rebuilt 307 with a new clutch kit, headers, Edelbrock intake, carb, etc last fall. It is in orginal condition aside from the wheels and engine add ons. 1985 C10 Silverado SWB. Not a bad truck rust wise from this area. Will need both cab corners, LH outer rocker, and couple rust repairs on the bed. The bed is in decent repairable shape though. It has a 305 with a TH350 trans. It has the usual options an a silverado would have. It is pretty much all orginal and un messed with. So this is my dilemma!LOL Both trucks have around 130,000 miles on them. |

Re: Need advice on which truck to keep
Hands down keep the 68...and I am a sucker for 81-87 short beds. The 68 has more style, more value and would be harder to replace. Want another 85? Just hit up craigslist any day.

Love the 68! Will make a great truck! I would take an older truck like that over any newer truck any day! But that's just me (but what do I know I'm 15 ) haha!

Re: Need advice on which truck to keep
I would say it depends on what you want to do with a truck. I personally like older vehicles, mainly because there's no emissions check on them where I live. But I like the modern conveniences of a new vehicle. I still haven't decided what direction to take with my 69, and I've had it for 14 years. I would like to update it with disc brakes and a better transmission, but I don't drive it enough to justify the expense right now. If the two trucks are in about equal condition, I'd say just keep the one you like the best. The 68 could be updated to make it drive every bit as good as the newer one. So if you like the style of the 68 and like to tinker, go with that. If you'd rather not bother doing updates and like the square body, go with that.

Re: Need advice on which truck to keep
68 is iconic 85 not as much. If there is any way at all to keep both I would recommend it. I have really regretted getting rid of a few of mine due to not being able to replace them at or near the same price later.

Re: Need advice on which truck to keep
Did you pose this same question to the square guys on the other forum years for the 73 to 87 guys? They would probably say just the opposite of what the ones here did. Several are talking about the benefits of a modern truck I really don't consider a 85 a modern truck. It still has a carb, and even a 2 piece rear seal and the had not even made the attempt at the mini type serpentine belt system they used on the 86's yet. Lets at least get a throttle body injection on the intake before we call it modern. I my be spoiled working with the late models like I do and if not one person agrees with me that is ok they can be wrong Jim

Re: Need advice on which truck to keep
I'd say keep the 68 as it may be harder to find another later as for the 85 sell it to fund repairs on the 68.

Re: Need advice on which truck to keep
If you keep the '68 vs. the 85....in 5 years you will be glad you made that choice.
If you do it the other way around.....we will have a fun thread about it and the 'one that got away for peanuts'....lol Keep the '68, all good Coley

Re: Need advice on which truck to keep
As a California resident, I'd vote for the '68, simply because the '85 will have to be smogged.

the 68 for sure! Older and cooler than an 80's truck IMO.

Re: Need advice on which truck to keep
Thanks for the advice everyone! I have decided to keep the 68 and eventually sell the 85 to a friend when I finish what I want to get done with the 68. Picking up a fairly fresh 383 stroker from another friend this spring and going to find a muncie M21 or 22 4 speed. allready have an Auburn posi unit for the 3.73 12 bolt thats in it. Yeah, could have posted this on the 73-87 forum. I just figured most people have owned/own a square body at one time or another.lol I used to have an 83 K10 Lwb a few years ago, but I have never really spent any real time behind the wheel of a 67-72 before. I do agree that the 68 is a much better looking truck!
