Buying a C50....Need Some Advice
Hey guys, I'm buying a C50 and need some advice. It appears fairly original and solid. It's been sitting for awhile, but will run. It says it has a 350 in it, and it has a 4spd. Is this the same 350 and 4spd that's in the 10-30 series trucks? What kind of rear end does it have? Is there a good site/link that has the factory specs on these trucks?
Thanks |

Re: Buying a C50....Need Some Advice
the 350 if original should be a standard small block, though it may be a 4 bolt lower end, the rear end of the truck can vary .. according to the gross weight of the truck and the 4 speed should be a SM465 ( standard to the chevy truck line) (not sure when they went from SM420's to 465's...mid 60's I think) if the RPO tag is still on the inside of the glove box it should list the rear end. Some of them got 2 speed's ( again not sure if the 50's or just the 60 series trucks) the RPO tag can be very interesting if it is there post a picture of it .

Re: Buying a C50....Need Some Advice
My 71 5500 had a 350/4 speed with the 2 speed rear end. The trans is a CH465, mounts different than the SM465 and has the park brake drum off the back of the trans. My two speed rear end was a 7.17/9.76:1.
Driveline is all removed now for it's repower. |

Re: Buying a C50....Need Some Advice
My C50 has a 350/5 speed/2 speed driveline. There is a post on here that has some C60 info and may be relevent to your question. There was a lot of mixing of parts for these trucks.

Re: Buying a C50....Need Some Advice
It would appear to have been one of those moving trucks you moved yourself with. With elephants on the side judging by the interior color.

Re: Buying a C50....Need Some Advice
Mr K20,
Nice truck. It looks like it is very solid and rust free. It doesn't seem to have been very molested. Have fun with it............Flat67 |

Re: Buying a C50....Need Some Advice
You're right. It did have the elephants on the side. That's pretty good that you figured that out.

It appears very original and the cab is solid. It's near rust free. It does have some rust on the fender, but very little.

Seen one in person with a flat bed and it also is a very distinct color. This board gives you a wealth of knowledge about a wide range of trucks.

Re: Buying a C50....Need Some Advice
Just an FYI.
I had a build a 72 C50 pickup from a box truck and the distributor in the 350 is different on the lower end along with the intermediate shaft.

Re: Buying a C50....Need Some Advice
That truck's super-nice, especially after all the years you KNOW it got beaten by folks moving their stuff (imagine how not-nice we all are to U-Haul trucks that we rent nowadays). There's a long-lost cousin to that truck here in Yuba City, although it needs tires and a battery, plus it's a little high (as a kite) on price, $6500:
