Doubt that, but believe what you like. Getting to 11.1 sec in the 1/4 mile is easy with your mouth or a typewriter but it's a lot tougher if you have to turn the wrenches. By the bye, my truck turns in the low 10's so some of us actually do have some track time behind us.

What trans are you running and what is your final gear? Full manual valve body, trans break? Is your truck set up for the track. Looks like a show truck from what I can see.

And also don't believe, I ever mentioned going with the small block after I said I was going to put the project on the back burner and save up for a 572 which I had a link to.
I run an LS2 powered Mazda Miata in SCCA spec racing and a ZZ572 powered 67 C10 at the drags. So, I am familiar with what it takes to make an engine survive that kind of use. 3k won't get it done on an LS series engine. Rods, pistons head work and valve train come to more than that on my Miata and it's only pushing 500 hp, not 650.

Trans is a JWRacing Turbo 400 with full manual valve body with a trans brake backed up by a Gear Vendors 0.7 : 1 electronic overdrive. Converter is a Johnny Winter 11 inch unit with a 3000 rpm stall. Diff was narrowed by 2 in on each side and the ends are Moser Ford ends with large bearing 31 spline moser axles. Gearing is 4.10 with an Eaton center. Bed is tubbed for section widths up to 18 in, so I run 285 17's on the street and 335 x 18 M&H slicks on the track on different wheels. Since I run small tires, the truck is limited by the tires but best time was still 10.21.

Yes, it does have nice paint and the engine bay is trimmed in stainless but this truck is not all show and no go. It looks good and will give the riceburner racers out here in the Desert a heart attack which is the look and level of performance I wanted when I built it. I just love pulling up beside one with Tweety on the side window!

Don't know too much about ls motors but I do know that the ls2 came stock with 400hp. 100hp isn't much of a gain for what it sounds like you have done to it

It was built to last three seasons without overhaul and to meet SCCA class requirements. The LS376 525 is the most robust engine that class allows so, I stopped at 500. If I went to rectangular port heads instead of the cathedral port heads on the engine it would be identical to the LS376 and cost $8000.00 less. I can't tell the difference between 525 HP and 500 HP in a 2200 pound car. Think you can?

Re: Engine/transmission recommendations on 70 c10 swb

Best bang for the buck is a GM crate engines. The one I hope to use is a ZZ383, if not the ZZ383 the HP383. Why, good horse power and BB torque! I'm going from stock 68 327 to another SB, you will have to change motor mounts if you use a SB.
Good luck,good hunting.

Re: Engine/transmission recommendations on 70 c10 swb

Fitz, that's one heck of a fast truck. 10.21 is just wicked fast no matter which way you look at it, especially for a street C10.

Did you get in more than one full pass before they kicked you for no roll bar? Lol

I normally keep the ET above 11.5 but I actually got in three passes in the 10's at Southwest International Raceway here in Tucson on a test and tune night before the IHRA banned the truck for no roll cage. I will not cut up that small window cab to put in the bars to the frame under the bed. OBTW, the truck is not street legal, as I run electric dumps, but It's got a tag. With no vehicle inspections it's amazing what you can run here in the desert!
