Re: USA-1 Monster Truck

I seen USA 1 in Oklahoma City back in the early 80's, they ought to bring all the old monster trucks back, kinda like the nostalgia series NHRA has, they could call it the "GREY HAIRED MONSTERS" LOL I'd go see them

Re: USA-1 Monster Truck

the original USA-1 has never rolled but has had a couple of near disasters. the 88 bodied USA-1 has rolled numerous times. there never was a model released of the 70 but i know a lot of guys bought a 72 chevy longbed kit and just used that body on the monster frame. Everret Jasmer still owns the trucks and they are still in Minnesota. a lot of the monster from back in the day are gone. either sold, scrapped or cut up for parts for anther monster build. slower but surely, there have been a lot of old school monsters coming out of the woodwork.

Re: USA-1 Monster Truck

Thanks for the awesome walk down memory lane hg!

I remember when the original 'monsters' were bigfoot, usa1, and king kong. The classics were the best, especially when they were only a few in existence.

I can't even keep track of the latest batch of monster trucks out now...

They're not even trucks any more. I see you remember King Kong. I was scrolling down to mention that truck when I saw you brought it up. I never got how Bigfoot took off in popularity so much while King Kong stayed in it's shadow. Probably a money/sponsorship thing. It was all about Bigfoot, like that was the only truck and I thought King Kong and USA-1 were so B/A. It was a great looking truck and coolest of all...it had a big old diesel with a fat stack blowing black smoke! It had a dump bed and even a winch! USA-1 had a winch, too, not sure about Bigfoot. That was before they became a segment of motorsports and crashing them up was a big attraction. They actually drove them off road, and I don't mean at a stadium.

Re: USA-1 Monster Truck

When I was younger we lived right down the road where Taurus was built and about 45 minutes from Bigfoot headquarters. I too miss the steel body monster trucks, I even have a pick on my garage wall of me standing under bigfoot when it had the 10ft tall "skinny" tires on it.

Re: USA-1 Monster Truck

This is a cool thread.

It appears Everett Jasmer sold the franchise in 2011: http://blogs.citypages.com/blotter/2...ells_usa-1.php

It looks like the original truck was part of the deal and there may have been an "old skool tour?
http://themonsterblog.us/2011/04/22/...vents-daytona/

I wonder if they showed the original and if it can be seen anywhere today...

They rebuilt the engine for it on one of the Spike Powerblock TV shows, forget which one.
