help !!! new cab on its way..
So this weekend i found a new parts truck for my hood hinges and seat but after talking to the owner who owns a custom car shop about patching floors, rockers and rear corners out of my small back window cab he mentioned the cab from the parts truck was solid so we took a look at it and it has good floors and rockers only one rear corner needs patching plus ITS A BIG BACK WINDOW...
after talking to him he gave me a ball park price on fixing my cab interior and also on buying this new cab and getting it all fixed and maybe paint the interior with me helping to get labor cost down it turned out to be a good deal to pass so i bought this new bbw cab. my question is this new cab has a diferrent set of gauges than mine and also the heater its different is this a big issue? im ok with canceling the heater but the gauges i need would it be alot to rewire or would it be a simple change ? I would fix the parts truck and drive it. Has a lot of deluxe options on it.

Would the wiring be any different than what I have now? For the heater and gauges? I'm planing on re using my wiring the one in the new cab is cut apart and/or missing

The wiring is the same for the gauges, you will need to make sure you get the oil pressure hardline intact
Edit it already has a temp sender, I was thinking of the earlier trucks with the idiot light

I would imaging the electrical isn't different. Only thing that may be an issue is the temp Guage. If your running a v8 and the Guage came from a truck with an inline 6. Then u may have some compatability issues. and vise versa. I ran into that issue with mine. Ended up running a separate Guage completely with a temp sending unit that came with the guage. hope to see ya around town Ur just south of me it seems. Aren't to many 60's pickups in the area.

The cab wiring is different between a cab with the gauges in the dash panel and one with just lights. Also the wiring will be different between the deluxe heater and the economy heater. The good news is that you can install your dash panel and heater into the new cab along with the wiring, if that is what you want to do.

you would have to change the temp sender ...the wiring from the temp to the dash should be able to be used with slight mods the oil is just add 1/8 tube the hard one will be the AMP gauge would have to run new wires for that .... i would use the better heater and figure out what mods in the wiring it will take to make it work ..... best maybe fix the harness in the custom cab HOW bad could it be (did i say that?) LOL .....I know it could be beyond help..... good luck

The electrical is not hard at all for the new gauge setup especially if the the oil is mechanical....
Your new gauge would be wired like this (if all electric) 1 wire from temp sender in motor for TEMP Gauge 1 wire from your GEN or ALT to the BATTERY Gauge 1 wire from oil psi sending unit to OIL Gauge (if its mechanical then run a 1/8" oil line to gauge) 1 wire from fuel sender should already be there. the send unit should be the same. The gauges should have a 1 ground wire that loops to each of them or they may be on a common bus on the backs of all the gauges. ground should already be there. So if anything you would have to run 3 wires into your engine compartment, 16 gauge size wire and color code them GM colors. Get the wire at NAPA. EASY! |

I think most cabs will need rocker repairs and kick panel work too...I have 2 cabs , one that one I am using and one that is a spare that I going to sell soon after I take out the factory air and use it ine the better cab .
I would not build a classic truck with out investigating the rust factor .....easier to do it now then havebad later paint later ...I dont ever plan to sell it .. |
