How to mount radio? - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I trimmed my dash for a modern style radio; however, I do not know how I am going to mount the radio. The radio will fit in the opening but I do not know how to properly secure it so it doesn't move or bend my dash. Does anyone have any pointers?

Use some type of backstrap that you can bolt 1 end to back of radio and other end to vehicle.

The factory radio had a strap in the back which bolted to the underside of the dash. The reason they did that was because the Delco radio was so big and heavy. Modern radios are light and small, so a lot of guys just use the tuning and volume control shaft nuts to support the radio.

I am interested in a solution for this also. Does anyone know of a adapter? I know adapters are available for most new veh. when replaceing a factory radio with din size cd player. I would like to find something that will cover up the poor cutting job I did when I was younger and dumber.

on my truck the radio was mounted to a plate that bolted to the dash. i just taped my radio to it and bolted it to the dash adn so far it has worked pretty well for me

I thought metal plumber's tape was the universal solution for mounting stereos. That's what I've used and seen used more than anything.

Searched for this topic before creating a new thread, luckily it's already created so I'll bump it. I'm running into this problem too. I really want to run an aftermarket stereo, especially since the dash has already been cut by a PO. The problem, like mentioned earlier, is the cut isn't the best. Seems the old dial holes are always left.

So, I'd like to run something like the above picture, if available to purchase. I'd also like to secure the radio cage as best as possible. If straps are the answer, so be it. My K5 runs an aftermarket aluminum dash, so it's DIN opening is plenty strong, but that doesn't help my C10.

A board member makes a great Billet Aluminum Radio Plate to fill the hole, clean it up, and I am sure it helps steady the radio.

I've got one, love it.

there should be a stud on the back of the radio to mount a piece of plumbers strap to. screw the other end of the strap to the firewall or if the oem radio mount is still attatched to the firewall, screw it to that
