Busted stuff
Lets see some of your best busted stuff.
I just pulled these out of a 57 265. I doubt a 80'sblock would have taken that beating with so little block damage. If this particular block wasn't so hard to find we may not have used the block but it pressure tested good and once its sleeved its good to go. |

Re: Busted stuff
Here's one that came out of my son's car. This one cost him a few thousand as it also destroyed an aluminum block.

Re: Busted stuff
Ohh, man. At my old mechanic's job we had a "Wall of Shame" for the thrashed engine parts we found. No pictures...
Got to love a vented block, though. Did a driveway diagnosis on that once, gal drove up and parked and said "I'm leaking oil". It was the #1 rod bearing that wanted a window to see out of.

Re: Busted stuff
I had a 60 Impala when I was 18 (1968) for my freeway flyer. One night coming home from night college class on the freeway cruising around 80 I felt a vibration start and in a few seconds get worse. I thought it might be rod/crank/clutch related and clutched the engine. Just as I did that there was a big boom and the rear wheels locked up. A glance in the mirror showed sparks flying. I kept the clutch in, let it drag itself to the side of the road. Got out, looked underneath; rear pumpkin was glowing red around the pinion area and I could see a hole. Dug out the fire extinguisher, gave it a good shot and called a friend with a tow truck. Here is what we found the next weekend when we pulled the pumpkin. Ring gear was chewed up too and we had quite a time getting the axles out so I replacing the whole rear axle....

Re: Busted stuff
Put a rod thru the block in my mothers 64 Fairlane Station Wagon (221 v8) with her sitting next to me- she had stalled in blocking the entrance to a shopping center and
called me- I had to ride my brothers banana bike 2 miles there- got it running, she stalled it again, got it running, she stalled it again, got it running, told her to move over and floored it. Made it into the parking lot before the rod let go. I was 16 at the time. No pics kept. Last edited by jetnow1; 03-12-2015 at 07:46 PM. Reason: left off info |

Re: Busted stuff
This was one of the best ones when I was working on a Top Fuel drag boat. I pulled the head off and the side of the block fell off. Totally trashed a good block!!!
