HELP! 2012 Silverado Need a switched 12v fuse location for aftermarket stereo.
I have searched the internet and have came up with nada, can anyone tell me where on a 2012 Silverado I can access for an aftermarket stereo. The fuse panel by the e-brake doesn't have any 12v switched fuses. Are there any under the hood that are switched that I can use?

You should be able to get an adapter that plugs into the harness where the stock radio did.

Yes, I have that adapter harness. Only problem is it has an external 12v wire that says it needs to be connected to a 12 v ignition on supply. There is no such supply in the in cab.

You need to get a better harness. There is also usually more involved than just putting in another radio. Aftermarket head units will blow the factory speakers because they run on different ohms. Its also possible you need te harness adapter that will allow the truck to actually start with the aftermarket radio.

Re: HELP! 2012 Silverado Need a switched 12v fuse location for aftermarket stereo.
Call metra and get a real aftermarket harness. If you have a premium factory radio you will need what they call a amplified harness. Call metra and tell them what truck and factory radio you have and they will make sure you have the proper harness
Head units are rated for an( 2-8 typical range) ohm load Speakers are rated in ohms some are 2,some are 4,6 or 8 ohm loads. Unless you are using some cheap imported junk of a head unit your factory speakers will be fine. Plan on replacing the factory speakers soon as well. They are cheap paper cones and will now be the weak link

Figured it out, I do have a specialized harness. All I needed was a separate power source as the newer Chevrolet stereos do not have a dedicated 12v fuse. I found an ignition on fuse under the hood and now all is well. Speakers are fine, everything works great.

but the way you have it hooked up it doesn't retain the 10 minute RAP mode, you need a pac module for correct install to retain all warning chimes and RAP mode. Retained Accessory Power- when you turn key off and leave doors closed radio stays on for 10 minutes or until you open drivers door.

with the 2012 head unit so integrated into your truck, there is no way i would remove it.
even with our sema cars we no longer remove the head unit; just update the speakers and amps my 09 gmc has all the chimes, warings, turn indicators, bluetooth, steering controls and who knows what else built into the head unit.

what you done will work but your going to loose the chimes and rap. other option is a chime box harness there about 30 some bucks at walmart. you can change a 12 trucks radio btw and get a swc control adapters. my 04 has the harness splice cause idgaf about the chimes. the saturn had the chime box. scosche from walmart one. metra and pac ones cost double and arent as good really.
