Re: How Many Of You Drive Your 60-66 Trucks Daily?
I drive my 61 10 or more miles 6 days a week. Upgrades include 350, 700R4, AC, PS, PB, tilt wheel, power windows, added padding when seat recovered, sound deadener under carpet, gas tank moved under bed with filler behind tag, bed mounted tool box. This truck is just a beater but it gets a lot of attention wherever it goes. Want to build another one with a 6.0 and 4L80E.

Re: How Many Of You Drive Your 60-66 Trucks Daily?
I drive my 64 daily either through downtown Denver or in traffic on I25. It's a stock 292 and 4 speed, no power, drum brakes. When i bought it there were 59k miles on the odo and I'm almost at 72k now. New tires, brake hoses, water pump, heater and bypass hoses, points, condenser, blower motor, wiper switch, ignition switch, a couple sets of wiper blades, a few lube jobs. and some TLC has been keeping her going.

Re: How Many Of You Drive Your 60-66 Trucks Daily?
My 65 lwb GMC is going to be my DD but since my 91 S10 still runs and drives I'm taking my time on the truck. All the bodywork and undercoating is done, the base colors are on and with my tax return the candy and clear will be ordered along with the wiring from Ron Francis. The disc brake swap will have to wait until after the twin turbo 4.8L with 4l80E is in.
With the twins and low boost I can still get close to 20mpg if I'm light on the throttle, my boss' 57 which weighs about the same as my truck makes 620HP to the tires and with a light foot he has been getting 18mpg. Its doable and after its broke in I plan to drive to CA in it to really put it thru its paces. I cant post pics until its finished because the mods I'm doing are one off and I do not need someone to swipe my ideas before my truck is done.

Re: How Many Of You Drive Your 60-66 Trucks Daily?
Not yet, but that's why I jumped back into the truck thing. I want to park my 2006 Chevy crewcab diesel (160,000) and use it for towing or out of town trips only. Figure if I gotta drive 70 miles a day round trip I might as well drive something cool that I enjoy instead of a newer truck. Don't get me wrong I love my Duramax but I also don't want to have to replace it. With these trucks if a major component goes bad I can swap it out in a couple weeks time and back on the road.

Re: How Many Of You Drive Your 60-66 Trucks Daily?
I got mine in March of 2014 had it up to snuff by June and put 4000+ miles on it by the time the first snow came. I kept it in the garage on soaking wet days. My daily commute is 70 miles round trip. I was using it anywhere from 3-5 days a week. I have a few classics that I rotate thru but my truck is by far my favorite. I get around 17mpg on average. Better than my grand cherokee by 3pmg. Gets thumbs up everywhere I go and it stands out in the corporate parking lot. I often come out to find the truck in a sea of Beemers and Benzes.

And one I have posted before shortly after it was finished. And what it looks like a couple years ago. Pretty much the same as now but it has more rust, it never stops!

Re: How Many Of You Drive Your 60-66 Trucks Daily?
Very nice. Did you stuff a diesel in it or gas motor...
I've always wondered if a diesel would get better milage than a gasoline motored truck.... ... ... Crap! I just saw that you put a Cummings in it...

Latter I decided to get a 4 speed and built my first Chevy 350, 30 over flat top pistons camel hump heads 202 & 194 valves Isky cam Ebelbrock intake and a Holly 650 double pumper when I first painted it Red & White. Best it ever did was 14mpg if you were easy on it. In a moment of weakness I sold it to a younger brother of my best friend and he wrecked it! twice!! Crunched pic, I got it back from him less the engine, and already had one kid and another on the way so it was either make it work or get rid of it extended cab pic. With no engine and wanting a turbo diesel I had a friend tell me about the Cummins 4bt. I never heard of it but an article came out in Fourwheeler mag about an older Jeep Wagoneer and I called the conversion shop and they talked me in to the idea. It works as well as the 350 but does almost double on fuel mileage. It will get 24-26 combined easily and I have gotten as good as 30 on on the high way on occasion.

Re: How Many Of You Drive Your 60-66 Trucks Daily?
What frame did you use for the extended cab. Is that the original frame?? Thanks for the info, that's the exact truck I hope to build one day.

Re: How Many Of You Drive Your 60-66 Trucks Daily?
The front half is an original 63 GMC 4x4 frame rear half is 1978 chevy so that the stretch in the cab fit with the short bed.

Re: How Many Of You Drive Your 60-66 Trucks Daily?
My daily driver for almost 5 years with little or no issues. Built it with driving in mind and put in a 700r4 and a 350. Lockable torque converter with dash switch, dual flowmasters with H pipe, patriot headers and Lokar shifter. Brakes stock other than a split master, lowered the old school way via chopped rear coils and loosened tortion bars. Great cruiser.
