gas tank relocation

So I'm gonna be that guy...I used the search button and not sure if it is me but I could not find too much that was relevant. I just tried to order a gas tank relocation kit from through a local place I believe they are just an LMC middle man and in Canada LMC is not practical, so here I am. I need to figure out what I can use in place of the blazer tank. i know i would prefer to go either the bed fill or the license plate fill style. This is for a 1968 lwb if that makes a difference at all... can some one give me a hand with this?

Re: gas tank relocation

Did you try Walker? Most of the reproduction parts are the same no matter who sells them. Blazer tank is going to be the best option. To fill you could go through the side marker and hinge it.

Re: gas tank relocation

I haven't been in maybe 6 months I will probably give him a call tomorrow only one I was able to find was the side fill and I'm worried that won't work for bed fill. Finished all the metal work don't want to have to jump back into cutting things up again.

Do you know if it would still work with a rollpan? Or do you need the extra room that the bumper gives you?

Re: gas tank relocation

Early Classic Enterprises sells a stainless steel tank ( and yes its a little pricey ) and you can order it with a top or side fill. Living in Winnipeg I'm sure you could have shipped to Emerson ND and pick it up there.

Re: gas tank relocation

I'd like to have the 69 Camaro tank that's behind license plate, but can you still install a trailer hitch?

Re: gas tank relocation

How about having the filler behind the tail light? Use a biger better fitting fuel tank and it's safer and a trailer hitch or even a hidden hitch will work.

Re: gas tank relocation

I'm gonna try to follow DaveMotoHead's lead (here) and put in a 41gal Suburban tank behind the axle with the filler inside the bed similar to this.

I'll be replacing the bed sometime this summer, figure it'd be easier to fit in the new tank, fuel lines and exhaust then.

I looked at Boyd's tanks also but decided on a gm tank as it was $89. Aluminum is cool but I was worried if it hits somthing it will crack as a friend of mine found out. Also I would like more than 19 gal for my truck and the 88 and newer gm tanks are fuel injection tanks. Just trying to get some options out there for people. If the truck is a show truck and not a driver than the Boyds tank is a good option.

Re: gas tank relocation

I meet a guy at the Columbus Oh. Good Guys show had a 69 LWB with a nice rake, I think it was 4 in. drop in front and 2 or 3 in. in back with a rear fill Suburb tank with a hitch. did not ask how many gallons the tank held. His only real complaint was fueling with trailer in tow.

Re: gas tank relocation

I am restoring a 1972 GMC 4x4. I purchased my tank from KMS tools, they have a Web site and carried both side fill and bed fill tanks for GMC
