67-70 vs 71-72 deluxe windshield trim.
There is apparently 3 types of windshield rubber, the 67-72 all rubber standard rubber, 67-70 deluxe rubber and 71-72 deluxe rubber. I understand the stainless trim is different between the 2 deluxe types. My questions are, first do they look the same? If you are starting from neither is one more practical than the other? I assume, if replaced as a set, they are interchangeable.

I've been told, although I can't confirm it, that the earlier trim has a longer holding tab (the part that locks it into the rubber seal) than the later trim. So as long as you keep the trim and rubber the same, they should work on any 67-72.
I would love confirmation on this though. |

They look the same on the outside and the years will interchange as long as you have the correct gasket for the trim you have. The shallow trim has a 3/8 lip on it and the deep trim has a 5/8 lip on it. In my experience the gasket with the deep trim is easier to install..... Put the gasket on the glass, then put the trim in the gasket, and install as a unit. You may have to put a few strips of masking tape around it to hold everything together until you are ready to install it. LockDoc

67/70 trim seats deeper and is less prone to popping out. It is also easier to install. Use the corresponding gasket.

Well my Jimmy is a '70, and I wouldn't say less prone, I'm not sure how that trim could have possibly popped out.

LOL, I guess my point was that if the 71-72 trim can pop out it's probably something unique to that trim, the '70 trim is really in there, I tried to pull some out when I disassembled the truck, it didn't come out in one piece. I'm not sure it's possible to remove it without popping out the whole windshield first.

When I say "pop out" I don't mean it's going to literally pop out and fly off the truck as you are driving it. The 67-70 trim will seat deeper and hold closer to the gasket as opposed to the 71/72 trim when installed. There have been countless threads over the years here about the headaches when reinstalling a windshield with trim. My point is that the best route to go is 67-70 trim OEM, not aftermarket.

I've always heard the 67-70 chrome is easiest to install, but I was thinking its the shallow chrome, most my trucks I part out have the deep chrome and they are 71-72.. I've also heard don't go aftermarket on this chrome

My 72 truck was missing the front trim when I bought it. I bought a new rubber gasket and aftermarket SS trim. An auto glass shop did the install and it was a real *****! They tried to do it at my house, and couldn't do it. I left the truck at their shop where they could get more hands on it and swear at it more freely. They got it all on, but said it was very difficult. The shop owner also is very familiar with this era trucks.

Anyone contemplating the use of stainless trim for their windshield is cautioned to avoid the aftermarket trim and use OEM pieces, which can still be readily had. I learned the hard (and time consuming/expensive) way that aftermarket trim fits poorly if at all. With OEM trim the windshield install is straightforward.

i have a set. I was hoping they were like the 4x4 tow hooks or something Ill take 9 million dollars for mine. Ill throw in the windsheild and old gasket as well
