71 c-10

I have a 1971 C -10. Since I've owned it (almost 4 yrs) the speedometer has never worked. Well with my interior almost complete ( ya I know should have prolly fixed that first) All gauges work except speedometer. Was this issue in that particular year or? Aside from speedometer cable I wouldn't know where to start. Any ideas?

I appreciate all feedback

Thanks

Re: 71 c-10

Pull the cable out of the tranny and verify the plastic gear isn't broken. Shine a light and check the gear on the output shaft. Its a good time the change the seals too if you haven't.

Question Re: 71 c-10

Take the cable loose at transmission and hook the cable to a battery drill and see if the speedometer will work. If so then it's something inside the transmission.
If it doesn't work then either the cable is bad are the speedometer is bad.Just bump the drill the first time to make sure the rotation is right.

Get out and drive the truck this summer and have some fun!
It sucks not being able to hear!

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.
