New to K5! Just picked her up! Need advice please
So I just picked up a 72 family fun ride - and love it! 454, red, 4x4.
I have a couple of questions: It came with a double-wall hard top, but I think I want a soft top.! Any idea what the hard top is worth? It got some cracks, but the glass is good, a few cracks on top, but not leaking. I need to seat 6, and plan to go to a junkyard to find a truck with front buckets with bucket seats. Anyone know what I should look for? The power steering seems 'loose' - what should I look for myself before I take it to a mechanic? Somebody at sometime put a huge fuel cell in it, am I SOL in a receiver hitch? Thanks for any advice! |

I have never understood why anyone would want to get rid of the hardtops. What happens in a few years when you decide you want a hardtop or you sell it? Might be kind of hard to find another one.

Re: New to K5! Just picked her up! Need advice please
I just started a thread a few days ago about the top. I just paid 650 for a top with no cracks and very nice hatch, it is a little saggy on top but I'll never see that once it's on. Most will argue that's to much for a double wall but I want one and they are scarce in my area.
As far as seat options I also posted a thread on that a while back. I did 2008 rear Tahoe with built in belts. For the front I bought a set of 08 trailblazer ss buckets, I'll probably add a center jump seat as I also need seating for 6. As far as steering have someone turn the wheel as far as it moves without moving the tires and see where the slop is.

I'll try that - as far as why I'd consider getting rid of it..... I understand, but I have storage issues... But may be able to rent some storage for a case of Busch lite...
I saw the threat for $650 now and that is very helpful. Considering yours, I'd guess about $500 with the cracks. |

No with cracks yours is more like $100-200 if somebody really needs it lol They aren't worth much, unless great shape and the hatch it perfect. If the hatch is damaged, then you have a big fiberglass top nobody wants. The hard tops are handy if you drive year round though, as I did with my '72.

First of all, welcome from about 3 hours north.
There was someone in Omaha looking for a top with a WTB ad on craigslist not too long ago. In your area the lack of a hard top will limit who will buy it. Some people want the occasional drive in the snow, and the soft top is going to be cold. I have my extra top in a rack near the ceiling of my shop and it's completely out of the way since it's by the ceiling. Do you have a garage or shop where you can get it up by the rafters out of the way?
