Screamin Water Pump
Well started the ol girl up today and heard a screaming noise coming from the front of the engine. Appears to be a water pump. When stopped if I grab the fan I have a little bit of play side to side so assuming this is the culprit. Those working on the old 270 GMC any help with a supplier? Napa, Oreilly's no help with 54 or 55 combo. How long up did they make the 270 as perhaps I can have them enter another year?
Thanks. |

Re: Screamin Water Pump
My 261 has a little oil cup to add a few drops to the bearing, I would think the 270 would have them also. Is there any antifreeze dripping from the shaft?

Re: Screamin Water Pump
I checked around and didn't see any oil ports. Would they look similar to whats on a generator? Thats the odd thing not a drop of antifreeze as far as I can tell.
Curious would a 261 waterpump interchange with a 270 as I see a 261 on Ebay currently for a decent price? |

Re: Screamin Water Pump
Yes they look the same, Mine has no cap, so it just looks like a hole. Unsure/doubt a 261 pump fitting on the 270 as theypretty specific to themselves. I believe the 302 gmc is the same though.
