Took my 72 K5 to the stars game last night
So had a great time taking the K5 to Dallas last night to the Stars game which they won really good game too. Anyway I was reluctant to take it that far as I have only had it a week and working through bugs etc. Anyway half way there on the freeway it started sputtering and backfiring it finally died in the slow lane and I pulled over. It started right back up oil and temp were fine as I had been watching and I made it to my buddies and my meeting place. I popped the hood and looked for a inline fuel filter that might be dirty but found non. Let it sit a minute and my friend got there and we talked about leaving it or fighting on in the K5. I really didn't want to leave it in a parking lot so since again it fired right up and the gages looked more then fine we went on. Twice again it stalled and backfired died once and we went looking for a mechanic shop close by but found non. Ended up just taking it easy all the way to the game parked it I had premium parking so I felt comfortable about leaving it in the garage up close. Enjoyed the game and headed home. We had about the same experience on the way home finally stopped put some premium gas and octane booster in it since it seemed like a fuel problem. After a few minutes that seemed to help some and I made it home with only one more episode. It seemed to have more problems if I pushed it a little or on major hills. I got the feeling it was getting gas starved like a fuel filter or pump problem. I doubt it was bad gas or problems with rust in the tank since it ran ok all week. I had taken it about 25 miles round trip earlier yesterday with no problems too. I am going to add a few pictures just for fun but what do you all think the problem might be? I am taking it in today anyway for the pros to figure out but it was an odd night for the K5 so I am wondering.
PS: Lots of dudes giving thumbs up and hollers from pretty ladies about the bad ass Blazer along the way especially in the crowds around the stadium. One girl on the freeway almost hit us loosing her lane trying to give us a thumbs up out the passenger window then her sun roof it was pretty funny. PSS: I am old, fat bald and gray my k5 deserves better soon I will load my way to good/hot for me GF into the K5 and post a picture or two. Thanks PG |

timing? Vapor lock? Clogged filter?
How hot was it under the hood? I know, it's cool when you take the Blazer out. It's like the General Lee...no one cares who was driving.

Not sure what it is just dropped it off with my good friends at Nykaza's distinguished auto service and he thought it sounded like an ignition problem my 72 he said has been converted to electronic from points. He will check it out today and fix it I am sure. Fun night.

Arrrrgh,
I'm still bitter about the North Stars leaving Minnesota, its only been 22 years! X2 on the ignition. It could also be running too rich. Nice looking truck, Ochre? Lee

That sounds exactly like what mine did when the HEI module was failing.

x2 on the HEI module. I had that happen to me last year. Truck ran fine for a while and then would just start coughing and die. It seemed to be fine when it was cold but as soon as it warmed up it would give me problems. hope you find out soon what's going on soon. Nice Blazer by the way!

Sounds like mine when I first got it. Took a few changes of fuel filters and the dropping and cleaning of the tank before it was good.

Get yourself some kind of security system or way of killing the ignition (if you haven't already done so). Leaving a beautiful Blazer like yours parked with the top off is an open invitation to all scum bags to try and make it their own. The pretty ladys and righteous dudes shout out their approval. The scumbags quietly follow you and wait for you to walk away....
